Cruise nights reinstated

MURRIETA ---- After a short hiatus, the Temecula Valley Car Club will start having its monthly Cruise Nights again Saturday.

The events are held from 3 to 6 p.m. the second Saturday of each month at Siggy's, 26820 Jefferson Ave.

The Dec. 13 Cruise Night will be the club's annual Ray Norman Marines Toys for Tots drive. Participants that day are asked to bring an unwrapped toy worth about $10.

Businesswomen plan meeting

SUN CITY ---- Protection from fraud will be the topic when the American Business Women's Association's Inland Valley Council meets at 9 a.m. Saturday at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

Rosalie Moyer, a volunteer with the Hemet Police Department, will speak.

The cost is $10 for breakfast and networking. Reservations are required by calling 925-2283 or e-mailing agnespeters@verizon.net.

Online research topic for group

TEMECULA ---- Barbara Renick will speak about online research when the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society meets Monday at the Temecula Public Library.

A genealogy class is offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the general meeting at 6:45.

The topic for the genealogy class will be basic German research, presented by Mary Ann Mericle.

At the meeting, Renick will speak about electronic searching, its frustrations and the techniques that will lead to success.

Civitan Club plans meeting

TEMECULA ---- Temecula Valley Civitan Club will host an information meeting for potential members at 6 p.m. Monday.

Civitan Club is a community service organization that raises funds for children's causes.

Noted quilter to address guild

TEMECULA ---- Gail Garber, a teacher, lecturer, designer and author, will speak when the Valley of the Mist Quilters' Guild meets at 7 p.m. Monday at the Mary Philips Senior Center.

Her talk is titled "Spiral Migrations ---- Putting it All Together."

Garber is the executive director of Hawks Aloft, an organization dedicated to conserving birds of prey. She and her friends were challenged to create an original design star quilt, and the program is the story of that challenge and the bonds that formed.

The meeting will be at 41845 Sixth St. The fee is $5 for visitors. Annual memberships are available for $30.

Women's Connection going to fair

CANYON LAKE ---- The Canyon Lake Women's Connection will have a theme of "Come To The Country Faire" when it meets from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Lodge in Canyon Lake.

Boutique items, holiday gift baskets, handmade and baked goods will be auctioned or available for purchase. Guests are asked to wear country or western attire.

Judith Scherfenberg will speak about “The Christmas Check List.” Music will be by Dee Smith.

The cost is $15, which includes lunch. Free child care is available with reservations, which are due by Nov. 5 by calling Gerry at 678-1407 or Leiloni at 245-0585.

Canyon Lake Lodge is at 22200 Canyon Club Drive.

The group, which is affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries/Christine Women's Clubs, also has a Prayer Connection on the at 9:30 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month in the Sunset Room at the lodge.

Genealogical society to meet

WILDOMAR ---- Ann Miller will talk about unusual places when the Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at Mission Trail Library.

The society also will host an autobiography writing workshops at 1 p.m. Nov. 24.

Piano Guild to meet

Pianists who love classical music are invited to attend a meeting of The Piano Guild at 7 p.m. Nov. 12.

The guild's purpose is to promote the education of piano literature. Members also will explore musical style, a little theory, interpretation and performance of major classical composers.

Kiwanis, Rotary plan golf tourney

SUN CITY ---- The Kiwanis Club of Sun City-Menifee Valley and the Rotary Club of Sun City-Menifee Valley will host the fourth annual Charity Golf Challenge on Nov. 14 at Menifee Lakes Country Club.

The event will benefit local Kiwanis and Rotary projects, as well as Menifee Valley Community Cupboard.

The cost is $125, or $30 for the banquet alone.

Square dance club plans event

TEMECULA ---- The Grape Stompers Square Dance Club will hold its Turkey Dance Nov. 15 at the Temecula Community Center.

Watercolorist to demonstrate works

TEMECULA ----Watercolor artist David Musser will be the demonstrator and juror when the Temecula Valley Art League meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Mary Phillips Center.

Musser started his career as an animator for the film industry. He later opened a gallery in Temecula.

In addition to demonstrating, he will judge the art of the members and guests. Members may enter one piece of art without charge. There is a $5 charge for each additional piece. Nonmembers may compete for $5 per piece.

Shelby Skinner took first place in the league's competition Oct. 21 for her rendition of "Christmas in Germany," depicting a street scene with Christmas trappings.

Jack Raglan, a Fallbrook artist, was the juror. He awarded second place to Jean Herrick for her painting "Arrowhead" and third place to Sue Rogers for "Fall Colors." Carol Landry received honorable mention for "Late Afternoon."

Works in three categories are judged: Painting, photography/digital and other.

Colleen Baker-Huber was awarded honorable mention for a porcelain pot, "Home of the Iguanas," in the other category. Bill Patrick won People's Choice for "After the Rain."

Garden club to meet

TEMECULA ---- Dave Heafner of Da-Le Ranch will talk about the benefits of worm castings in gardens when the Temecula Valley Garden Club meets at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 18 at the Community Recreation Center.

MURRIETA ---- The Murrieta Valley High School Fall play, "You Can't Take it With You," will be staged this week.

Shopping day benefits charities

LAKE ELSINORE ---- Lake Elsinore Outlets will help local nonprofit organizations raise money and awareness for their causes at the center's sixth annual Shopping Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Participating charities are American Association of University Women, American Cancer Society, Angels at Work, Animal Friends of the Valleys, Bubel Aiken Foundation, Canine Support Team, CASA for Riverside County, Child Help of Temecula Valley, Canyon Lake Middle School Avid, Lake Elsinore Valley Thunder Football, Empty Cradle, Lancer Cheer Association, Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce, Luiseno Elementary Music Program, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County & Inland Empire, Shoshanah Chapter of Hadassah, Teen Challenge Ladies Guild, Terra Cotta Band Boosters, Thessalonika Family Services and Think First.

The shopping extravaganza features lunch, wine tasting, an energy and pamper station, free gift bag, free gift wrap, music, entries to a drawing for a $500 shopping and a raffle.

MSJC to perform 'The Cherry Orchard'

MENIFEE ---- Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard," will be performed this week in the Menifee Lab Theatre at Mt. San Jacinto College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9.

This Russian piece, written in 1903, is the story of a family that is about to lose its home and orchard due to financial irresponsibility and the inability to accept the truth of their circumstance.

Tickets cost $9 general admission and $8 for MSJC students.

Vendors sought for craft fair

MURRIETA ---- Vendors are being sought for Murrieta United Methodist Church's third annual Craft Faire on Nov. 15.

The fair will include booths with hand-crafted items.

Light Up a Life celebration upcoming

TEMECULA ---- The Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties, Murrieta Hospice, will have its annual "Light Up a Life" remembrance and celebration of those who have died from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 22.
