CHARGERS NOTES: L.T. likes the sound of 'President Obama'

SAN DIEGO ---- LaDainian Tomlinson, who has served as the face of the franchise for most of his Chargers' career, expressed joy Wednesday over the new face of the nation.
Barack Obama became the first black man to win a presidential election on Tuesday night, and the phrase "President Barack Obama" resonates in a big way with the Chargers' superstar.
"I think it's a great time in America, to be honest with you," Tomlinson said. "I never thought I'd see the day where an African-American would become president of the United States. To me, we've come a long way and I'm proud of that.
"These are the days that I am proud I live in America because it's the greatest country in the world and people proved that last night."
Edwards pulling for Long
Like most former San Diego State football players, Kansas City coach Herman Edwards has no answers for why the Aztecs continue to have such a poor program.
But Edwards is happy to hear that Aztecs coach Chuck Long will return in 2009 for a fourth season on the job.
"I think he's a good man and a good coach," Edwards said on a conference call. "I don't know. It always goes back to recruiting and the players you get in there.
"I know he's going to come back next year, which I think is great. It gives him another shot at another recruiting class of kids. And I think it's like anything else ---– they have to win a couple games and when they do that, they'll gain confidence."
Injury updates
Receiver Chris Chambers (ankle) and cornerback Antonio Cromartie (hip) missed Wednesday's practice. Their availability for Sunday's game against Kansas City will be determined later this week.
"When they can't practice on Wednesday, I start getting concerned," Chargers coach Norv Turner said.
