Senior center holds ballroom dance

OCEANSIDE ---- The Oceanside Senior Center will hold a ballroom dance featuring music by the Encores from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 9 at 455 Country Club Lane. Admission is $5 and anyone 55 and older is welcome. Call (760) 435-5250.

Seats available for Hollyhock House trip

OCEANSIDE ---- Openings are still available for the El Camino Real Chapter of Questers' visit to the Hollyhock House in Hollywood and the Pt. Fermin Lighthouse in San Pedro on Nov. 13. Hollyhock House is Frank Lloyd Wright's first Los Angeles project of house and gardens, built between 1919 and 1921 for Aline Barnsdall and incorporates her favorite flower into the decorative program of the house.

There will be a stop for a no-host lunch at Papa Cristo's Restaurant prior to the visit to Pt. Fermin Lighthouse. Built in 1874 using California redwood, this Victorian structure is crowned with a cupola and surrounded by colorful flower gardens. It is one of the oldest lighthouses on the West Coast.

Cost for the trip is $62 and includes deluxe motor coach, driver gratuity, admission to venues, docent-led tours and light refreshments en route. Call (760) 591-3581.

Vigilucci's Jazz at the Museum set

OCEANSIDE ---- Vigilucci's Jazz at the Museum will present local jazz artist Jaime Valle and friends at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Oceanside Museum of Art, 704 Pier View Way. Valle has played in jazz festivals across the globe with top talents like Poncho Sanchez, John Lee Hooker, Joe Pass and Mongo Santamaria.

The evening will begin with Vigilucci's hors d'oeuvres and wine. Admission is $10 for OMA members, $15 for nonmembers. Admission is at the door. Open seating is on a first come basis.

Guests also will have the opportunity to view the exhibitions "Damngorgeous: Millard Sheets and His Southern California Legacy" and "Quilt Visions 2008: Contemporary Expressions."

Chef Larry to demonstrate holiday dishes

OCEANSIDE ---- A cooking demonstration with celebrity chef Larry Banares will show how to cook new holiday dishes and design creative table centerpieces for the holiday table at 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at the Mission Branch Library Community Rooms, 3861 Mission Ave.

George Chamberlin to speak

VISTA ---- George Chamberlin will speak and answer questions concerning the country's financial and economic issues at the Shadowridge Rotary Club luncheon at noon Nov. 11 at the Shadowridge Country Club, 1980 Gateway Drive. Chamberlin is best known for his financial commentaries on NBC 7/39 News and his columns in the North County Times. Senior safety seminar offered

Baile de Esperanza to benefit Tri-City Hospital

CARLSBAD ---- The Tri-City Hospital Foundation hosts its 28th annual Baile de Esperanza at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara, 7100 Four Seasons Point. Proceeds from this year's event will directly impact Tri-City's next technology installation of a Pharmacy Wireless Bedside Medication Scanning System, which will further streamline the hospital's ability to provide the best care for its patients.

City to inaugurate golf tournament

CARLSBAD ---- The first city of Carlsbad Amateur Golf Championship will be held Nov. 15 and 16 at The Crossings at Carlsbad, 5800 The Crossings Drive. The event will incorporate multiple flights (divided by handicap) and overall champions will be named for the following divisions: Seniors, Ladies, Low Gross and Low Net. Both days will start at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. All competition is based on individual scores and will be net (except for the overall gross award). Music museum to host slide guitarist

Center to host Tai Chi classes for seniors

Monthly bird count at Batiquitos Lagoon

CARLSBAD”The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation will offer the easy, docent-led bird count walk at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 14 and every second Friday of the month starting from the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation Nature Center parking lot, located at the end of Gabbiano Lane. The purpose of this walk is to count the birds both seen and heard at the lagoon and report the numbers to the Audubon Society. Encinitas to host preschool prep

CARDIFF ---- The city of Encinitas Parks and Recreation department will offer its Little Learners class for kids, ages 34-46 months who are potty-trained and able to participate independently of their parents, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Scout House in Glen Park, 2149 Orinda Drive. The course is designed for opportunities to meet other children, explore a new environment, as well as provide an introduction to reading readiness and other preschool prep activities designed to promote confidence in young learners as well as expose them to new ideas and concepts. Children will work on pre-reading and pre-writing skills throughout the session. Supervised open play, snack and art will also be included. Dush Ramachadran, a vice-president of ClickBank.com, a Colorado-based company that facilitates storage, delivery and transactions for online products, will teach authors, writers, entrepreneurs, and other content creators how to sell and deliver their products via the Internet.
