ESCONDIDO: Six arrested in prostitution sting
| ∞
ESCONDIDO ---- Six women were arrested on suspicion of prostitution in an undercover sting this week, an Escondido police lieutenant said Friday.
In the Thursday operation, undercover detectives posing as customers were quickly approached by several women who allegedly offered sex for money, Lt. Craig Carter said. He did not indicate where the operation took place.
Ashley Brooks, 19, of Chula Vista; Prisillia Chavez, 18, of Lemon Grove; Michelle Cox, 22, of Victorville; Veronika Reyes, 21, of Modesto; Melissa Scivoletti, 22, of Decatur, Ga.; and Shaneka Smith, 27, of San Diego were arrested on suspicion of loitering with the intent to commit prostitution, Carter said.
Five of the women were released after promising to appear in court, he said. Smith had an outstanding warrant for her arrest and was booked into the Vista jail.
Carter said suspicious activities may be reported to the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (760) 743-TIPS (8477) or at http://www.escondido.org/police.

Legalize and Tax wrote on Nov 22, 2008 12:25 PM:I agree. Use that vacant lot next to the new hardware store to build a brothel. Legalize prostitution and tax it. Deficits gone.

Prostitution is one of the oldest professions, but it also breeds other criminal behavior and it needs to be eliminated from the public.
We'll never be able to completely eradicate it, a better solution is to control it like the State of Nevada, with licenses, health certifications, etc.
Gringo wrote on Nov 22, 2008 2:43 PM:There's no difference between these girls and the illegals hanging around
Home Depot soliciting themselves for work without a workers permit, yet i don't see nearly as many sting operations if any addressing that problem.
P wrote on Nov 22, 2008 5:18 PM:How about set up a sting to catch the men who are patronizing these women and put THEIR names in the paper!
To Legal wrote on Nov 22, 2008 7:45 PM:are you kidding? Where there are postitutes there are drugs, where there are drugs there a many many problems. Hey lets make drugs legal, lets make gangs legal. Let's not have any laws and just a free reign world. No thanks take your liberal thoughts some place else.
C wrote on Nov 22, 2008 8:48 PM:P-that is the smartest thing I've read here. Why is it always the girls to pay and the guys just move on to another hooker hangout. Put their names in the paper so the wives can go get checked or dump the bum.
He Said wrote on Nov 23, 2008 6:21 AM:The street hooker roundup is just another case of attacking the poor - both the ladies and the "johns" - while nothing is being done about $1,000+ per night call girls and escorts. Typical discrimination of the lower classes.
Joe wrote on Nov 23, 2008 6:41 AM:You legalize drugs and prostitution, the gangs go away on their own!
Why is loitering against the law for these women, yet it's okay for men who are breaking the law by just being in this country?
To me, that seems like a double standard.
I agree P and C wrote on Nov 23, 2008 7:08 AM:and maybe in addition to their names they should put a picture in it as well.

To Alex of La Jolla wrote on Nov 23, 2008 1:10 PM:La Jolla is no better then any place else. Just maybe criminals with more money. I don't care where you go in this world. How rich an area or how poor you will find crime. The only other difference I might find is that those with more look down on those with less. Take a look at your own back yard
Alex before you judge others. Rich people buy hookers just as much as poor.
