Cleaner, diet supplements among recalled products

-- About 20,000 bottles of DuPont Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner. Pressure can build in full and nearly full bottles when they are stored in high temperatures for a long time, causing the cleaner to leak from the cap. There have been two reports of leaking bottles. One consumer reported a skin irritation and another peeling skin. The cleaner was sold at Lowe's stores between March and October 2008. Call (888) 241-2780; visit www.cpsc.gov.
-- Balanced Health Products Inc. is recalling 1,974 bottles of Starcaps Diet System dietary supplements. They contain bumetanide, a prescription diuretic drug that poses a risk of significant fluid and electrolyte loss. It could also cause low blood pressure and fainting in certain people. Bumetanide could react with digoxin and lithium and lead to an increased risk of toxicity. No incidents have been reported. The recall includes only 30-capsule bottles from lot number 12/2011-84810. They were distributed to stores and online retailers around the country between August and October 2008. Call (212) 794-9793.
-- Fashion Sanctuary is recalling all lots of 10-capsule blister cards of Zhen De Shou fat loss capsules, because they contain sibutramine, an FDA-approved appetite suppressant. In certain patients it could increase blood pressure and pulse rate, posing a risk for people with histories of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia or stroke. No incidents have been reported. The capsules were sold by online retailers around the country.
-- About 275 Shimano Dura Ace carbon clincher bicycle wheels, manufactured in Malaysia and imported by Shimano American Corp., because the rim surface and spoke-hole plugs can cause the tire's inner tube to puncture. This could cause a rider to lose control. No injuries have been reported. The wheels were sold by specialty bike stores and dealers around the country between April and August 2008. -- About 35,500 rechargeable batteries and recharging stations for Didj custom gaming systems, manufactured in China by LeapFrog Enterprises Inc., because the batteries can overheat if the gaming system is put into the base upside down. The company has received 12 reports of overheated batteries, including one report of a minor burn. The batteries and recharging stations were sold at department and toy stores around the country and online at www.leapfrog.com and other Web sites between July and October 2008. -- About 57,000 Rage Wireless Guitars, made in China and distributed by Performance Designed Products LLC, because a circuit board defect can cause the guitar's AA batteries to leak if the batteries are installed incorrectly, posing a risk of chemical burns to consumers. The company has received one report of a burn to a consumer. The Rage Wireless Guitar controller, colored blue or white, is designed to be used on the Nintendo Wii system. -- About 47,000 Blue Ember Gas Grills, made in China by Keesung Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Unisplendor Corp. and imported by Fiesta Gas Grills, because the gas grills can be assembled improperly and expose the gas burner hoses to excessive heat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. Fiesta has received 14 reports of grill fires. No injuries have been reported. The recall involves Blue Ember liquid propane (LP) or natural gas outdoor grills. Affected model numbers include FG50057 or FG50069. The products were sold at various home centers and retailers nationwide from November 2007 through June this year. -- About 400 boxes of Harry & David Milk Chocolate Gingerbread Moose Munch Confection are being recalled by Harry and David. The boxes might contain a different product that contains undeclared pecans. This could cause a severe or life-threatening reaction in people who have allergies to pecans. No illnesses or injuries have been reported, according to the Medford, Ore., company. The recalled 1-pound, 4-ounce boxes have a "best if used by" date of June 28, 2009, and the stock identifying number RSD142014. The product was distributed throughout the United States in Harry and David stores. Call (800) 233-1101.
