ESCONDIDO ---- A driver who veered his SUV off Encino Drive on Saturday night and struck a tree may have fallen asleep before the crash, a police sergeant said Sunday.
The man, an Escondido resident whom police did not identify, was found alone inside his rolled-over Jeep Cherokee shortly after 8:32 p.m. The wreck took place on the 2000 block of Encino.
The man said he could not remember what happened before the crash, leading police to think he may have been asleep, Sgt. Doug Sams said.
He suffered a dislocated hip and he may have suffered a concussion, Sams added.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to call Escondido Police Officer Thomas Venable at (760) 839-4722.
Residents also may use the department's anonymous tip line at (760) 743-TIPS (8477) or visit www.escondido.org.
