Chase Budinger won't be a one-year wonder at the University of Arizona. His coach is certain of it, at least.

Arizona men's basketball coach Lute Olson told foxsports.com that the former La Costa Canyon High stud will return for his sophomore season.

"Chase is definitely staying," Olson said. "He's told everybody that can be told that there's no way he's going to the NBA."

Olson expects Budinger to lose a teammate to the NBA -- sophomore Marcus Williams. Those two led the way as the Wildcats upended intrastate rival Arizona State 61-58 on the road Sunday night. Budinger scored 23 points and Williams 19.

Guy to Ireland

Well, that didn't take long.

We mentioned in our previous entry how soccer player Ryan Guy was attempting to land a job in Europe. Almost as soon as we hit "send," he found employment in Ireland. The forward out of La Costa Canyon High and the University of San Diego will be on the roster for St. Patrick's Athletic as it begins play Monday in the Sentanta Sports Cup.

At Cal Poly, Correia was a teammate and roommate of Greg Bochy, the manager's son who attended Mt. Carmel High and Palomar College. "I know him personally, but you have to put that aside," Bruce Bochy said. "He's been over to the house a few times. He's quite the surfer. There's not a wave he can't handle." …

One-year Padre Mike Piazza is coming to terms with life as a designated hitter. "It was weird not blocking balls for the first time, but it's been fun so far," said the longtime catcher, now with the Oakland Athletics.

Swimming along

Mt. Carmel High product Eddie Erazo helped UC Irvine win the Big West men's swimming championship. After earlier swimming a leg on two relay teams that set meet records, Erazo set an individual meet record Saturday when he won the 200 butterfly in 1 minute, 44.52 seconds -- the eighth-best time in the nation this season.
