North County business briefs: Proposals for surf schools sought

NORTH COUNTY -- California State Parks is accepting proposals for the operation of surf school and camps at North County beaches. A meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the San Diego Coast District North Sector Office, 2680 Carlsbad Blvd. in Carlsbad. Town center to hold grand opening

4S RANCH -- Regency Centers, a national owner, operator and developer of grocery-anchored and community shopping centers, is hosting a free 4S Commons Town Center grand opening event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Rancho Bernardo and Dove Canyon roads.

Thousand Smiles forms

CARLSBAD -- Thousand Mile outdoor wear has partnered with Life is Good Clothing to form Thousand Smiles, at 5620 Paseo del Norte, Suite 121D. Thousand Smiles will offer both Thousand Mile and Life is Good merchandise, including clothing, footwear and accessories. A grand opening will be held Saturday.

BAE Systems keeps busy

SAN DIEGO -- A BAE Systems-led team will develop software to more effectively deploy U.S. Marines and amphibious fleets to crisis centers around the world. The team also includes L-3 Communications and Moebius Solutions.

Also, BAE Systems and Raytheon Co. have formed a team to design and demonstrate a Web-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and targeting capability to support naval operations and other U.S. government agencies, military services and U.S. allies for various missions.

BAE Systems has a location in Rancho Bernardo; Raytheon has an office at Camp Pendleton.

Express Logic product used in mission

RANCHO BERNARDO -- Express Logic Inc., a Rancho Bernardo-based company that provides software solutions, says that its ThreadX RTOS has been used by NASA in its Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter mission is to map the surface of Mars with high-resolution and infrared imaging sensors so that scientists can gain a better understanding of the planet, including its ability to support any form of life. ThreadX manages the cameras responsible for the quality of images being collected.

MaxLinear tuner featured in prototype

CARLSBAD -- Semiconductor company MaxLinear Inc., headquartered in Carlsbad, announced that its MxL5005S Silicon Tuner RF IC has been designed into the Advanced VSB portable TV prototype from Samsung, which will be demonstrated at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in April. Advanced VSB enhances the ability of portable devices to receive TV broadcasts while in motion.

Institute to use Poway company's system

POWAY -- American Radiosurgery Inc., based in Poway, says that the Rotating Gamma Institute-Orange County is set to begin treating patients with its Rotating Gamma System in May.

The Rotating Gamma System is a computer-controlled radiation device that treats brain tumors.

Klang & Associates retained by Ryland

CARLSBAD -- Klang & Associates Inc., based in Carlsbad, has been retained by the Sacramento division of Ryland Homes to provide model home interior designs for Sienna, a new community of single-family homes under construction in Sacramento. Work on the model homes is scheduled to be completed by this summer.

Bank of Internet to work with CWI

CARMEL VALLEY -- Bank of Internet USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of B of I Holding Inc., and CWI Inc. have launched a five-year marketing agreement to offer deposit and loan products to recreational vehicle customers through RVBank.com, a new Web site operating as a branch of Bank of Internet USA.

Bridgetech subsidiary makes pact

Bridgetech Hong Kong Limited, wholly owned by Solana Beach-based Bridgetech Holdings International Inc., has entered into an agreement with Formosa Biomedical Technology Corp. to distribute medical diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to Taiwan consumers and medical professionals.

EMolecules collaborates

DEL MAR -- EMolecules Inc., a Del Mar-based provider of an online chemistry database, and Advanced Chemistry Development Inc. have announced a collaboration that will allow predicted logP data to be displayed in eMolecules' online database of 5.6 million chemical structures.

MaintenanceNet strikes deal

CARLSBAD -- MaintenanceNet Inc., a Carlsbad-based provider of maintenance contract management services, has been selected by Insight Enterprises Inc., a provider of information technology hardware, software and services, to deliver a host of data management services along with a Web-based supply chain portal to administer service contract life cycles associated with all HP products sold by Insight in the United States.

ImageWare to implement solution

RANCHO BERNARDO -- ImageWare Systems Inc. was selected by the nonprofit consortium of Patients, Physicians and Pharmacists Fighting Diversion to implement a biometric identity solution as part of its Forensic Medicine Technology program. The system is to fight prescription narcotic drug abuse while allowing patients with legal prescriptions to continue to have access to the medicines they need.

The Rancho Bernardo-based ImageWare is a software company that allows government and private agencies to track identities and photos using computers.

Helicomm reaches agreement

CARLSBAD -- Venture Design Services Inc., a subsidiary of Venture Corp. Limited, and Carlsbad-based Helicomm Inc. today announced an agreement to deliver Venture Design's wireless tracking products for the mine safety market. Helicomm provides the mesh networking modules for the MineTracer product.

Ground broken on Live Oak Ranch

VALLEY CENTER -- MSK Development Group has broken ground on a 307-acre hillside estate community called Live Oak Ranch, adjacent to Valley Center Road. The $134 million project will consist of 146 estates.

US Farms enters tomato market

US Farms Inc., which has operations in North County, says that it has entered into the fresh tomato market.

RANCHO BERNARDO -- Sony Electronics has extended its sponsorship of the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series for the 2007 season.

Sony first sponsored an NHRA Sport Compact event in 2003 and has been the title sponsor of the drag racing series since 2005.
