Dancing with a star
CARLSBAD -- Jazzercise Inc. said it hired Cheryl Burke, a two-time winner of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" television show, to speak for the company in a variety of marketing campaigns.
Judi Sheppard Missett and Shanna Missett Nelson have expanded Jazzercise into a mostly franchised business with 7,500 instructors and more than 32,000 classes in 32 countries. The program includes jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates and yoga.
Job hunt seminar
SAN DIEGO -- National University and LEAD San Diego will host a free seminar July 9 on job-searching skills.
Phil Blair, who co-owns Manpower employment service franchises in San Diego County and Riverside County, will lead the seminar. It will run from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on National's Spectrum Business Park Campus, 9388 Lightwave Ave.

Dressing for success
Mission Federal Credit Union and Time Warner Cable are collecting business clothing through July for job trainees escaping homelessness.
"Clothes 4 A Cause," now in its ninth year, seeks ready-to-wear business outfits for men and women. Donations are accepted at any Mission Federal location and at Time Warner offices in Carlsbad, Del Mar, Clairemont and Coronado. A donor can win a $1,000 shopping spree at Westfield shopping centers, courtesy of the credit union.

'Fore' education
POWAY -- Maderas Golf Club will host a July 17 fundraiser for the Human Development Foundation, an Encinitas charity that funds special education programs for gifted children from low-income neighborhoods.
Registration begins at 11 a.m.; a shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m.

West Inn wins award
CARLSBAD -- West Inn & Suites was one of 11 hotels to win the "Stars of the Industry" award from the American Hotel & Lodging Association. West won the association's prize for the best guest-relations program among hotels with fewer than 100 rooms.

Massage Envy locations signed
New Genovation LLC recently opened two franchised Massage Envy locations in Encinitas and Rancho Bernardo, brokers CB Richard Ellis reported.
New Genovation signed five-year leases for the two locations, 4,060 square feet at 278-D N. El Camino Real in Encinitas, and 5,000 square feet at 16779 Bernardo Center Drive in Rancho Bernardo. The massage studios have at least 15 locations throughout San Diego County; franchisees have also opened at least one location in southwest Riverside County.
New Balance in Cardiff
CARDIFF -- Franchisees will run a newly renovated 3,000-square-foot New Balance store at 2009 Newcastle Ave., according to a local Lee & Associates real estate brokerage.
New Balance, the Boston-based company that makes shoes and other athletic clothing, paid $1.96 million for the space.
Sales survival workshop July 15

VISTA -- Omnipoint Communications Inc. leased 2,300 square feet of retail space for five years at 1811 University Drive from ValVista South LLC for $492,660. Omnipoint expects to run a T-Mobile cell phone shop.

Yarn store opens doors
VISTA -- Clever Knits, a yarn store at 214 S. Indiana Ave., will celebrate its opening Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. It's run by three North County residents.
Chamber holds golf fundraiser
VISTA -- The Vista Chamber of Commerce is planning a golf tournament fundraiser on Monday.
An entry fee of $30 includes lunch, beer and soft drinks on the course.
It's at Shadowridge Country Club, 1980 Gateway Drive.
A shotgun start is planned for 12:30 p.m. A silent auction and cocktails willl follow at 5 p.m., and then dinner and awards at 5:30 p.m.
