SAN DIEGO ---- More than 300,000 people are expected to pack Balboa Park's 31th annual "December Nights" festival next weekend, which features free museum admission, continuous live entertainment and gifts and food from around the world.
Pirates set to invade Vista next weekend
VISTA ---- Santa's "ho hos" will have to share time with pirates "yo hos" this month, when the Pacific Coast Pirate Festival invades the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum next weekend.

Best Bet: San Marcos hosts 14th annual Santa's village
SAN MARCOS ---- The city hosts its 14th annual Santa's Magical Village next weekend, with events that include a crafts fair, carolers, children's entertainment, hands-on activities and a tree-lighting ceremony featuring jolly old St. Nick himself.
Best Bet: Turn-of-the-century holiday re-created in Escondido
ESCONDIDO ---- No need for H.G. Wells to take you back in time this holiday season. From 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, the Escondido History Center is hosting "Christmas by Lamplight," which will re-create the holiday season of 100 years ago.
