The North County Times in coastal Southern California is looking to hire a top-notch graphic artist for both our print and Web editions. Our ideal candidate would have deep experience in both Quark and InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand and an acquaintance with Dreamweaver and other similar software programs. We're seeking a seasoned newspaper graphics professional who specializes in creating highly detailed infographics and "charticles" — someone who can tell a story in an infographic, an artist with a reporter's instincts. We'd also prefer an artist with both natural and computer-manipulated illustration and a great page designer. A tall order? We know that person is out there and we've got plenty of challenging and fascinating work at our burgeoning design department, including a sweeping redesign that's already in the works. This position will report to the design editor and will be a key player in a graphics department that is being created to meet our newsroom's growing needs for charts, information graphics, maps, logos, skyboxes, teasers and other creative work. The North County Times, which is part of Lee Enterprises, is a 90,000 circulation daily newspaper that serves north San Diego County and southwest Riverside County in Southern California. We're the ultra-competitive, high-quality alternative to the San Diego Union-Tribune and the Riverside Press-Enterprise. Come help us win a newspaper war in paradise. Please send cover letter, resume and work samples (PDF and hyperlinks work fine) to opportunities@nctimes.com to the attention of Bill Ramsey, design editor. No phone calls please.
