SAN DIEGO -- Four North County restaurants and one North County brewery will offer samples of their signature dishes and drinks Sunday at Share Our Strength's 17th annual Taste of the Nation food event.
The fundraising food festival, featuring menu tastings from many of San Diego County's top restaurants, will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the San Diego Museum of Art's sculpture garden in Balboa Park.
Among the more than 25 high-end restaurants participating in the event are Addison at the Grand Del Mar Resort, El Bizcocho at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, Pacifica Del Mar in Del Mar and the Pamplemousse Grille in Solana Beach. More than a dozen beer, wine and beverage makers will also participate, including Escondido's Stone Brewing Co.
Some of the restaurants scheduled to participate in this year's Taste of the Nation event are Alchemy, Alexander's on 30th, Anthology, Barona Resort & Casino, The Glass Door, Grant Grill, JSix, The Linkery, The Marine Room, Oceanaire Seafood Room, Quarter Kitchen, Red Marlin, Romesco Baja Med Bistro, Truluck's Seafood, Steak & Crab House, Waters Fine Catering and Whisknladle.
Besides gourmet food tastings, the event will feature wine and beer tastings, live music, a silent auction and an "Iron Chef"-style competition.
Tickets to Taste of the Nation cost $75, which is $20 less than last year, a nod to the slow economy. All proceeds benefit Share Our Strength, a charity focused on ending childhood hunger in America. Since the program began in San Diego, the local event has raised more than $597,000. For reservations, call (877) 268-2783 or visit www.tasteofthenation.org.
