ESCONDIDO -- Mac Weakley of Carlsbad may be sitting on a million dollar jackpot with the catch this morning at Dixon Lake of what may be the new world's record largemouth bass.

Weakley said he was fishing in the rain with buddies Jed Dickerson and Mike Winn when he hauled in the monster bass weighing a reported 25 pounds, 1-ounce. But there are problems.

The fish was foul-hooked in the side and not hooked in the mouth. Weakley has calls in to the California Department of Fish and Game and the International Game Fish Association , which certifies record fish catches, to see if this would be an accepted catch. If approved, the 25-pound weight would shatter the previous world record of 22 pounds, 4 ounces set in 1932 at Montgomery Lake, Ga .

In 2003, Dickerson caught a 21-7 bass at Dixon Lake that caused quite a stir in the bass fishing world and earned Dickerson international publicity. His fish was released and some believe this could be the same fish.

Bass this size in Dixon could focus world fishing attention on this tiny Escondido Lake and a certified world record could produce millions for the lucky fisherman in product endorsements and publicity.
