SAN DIEGO - A former assistant basketball coach at La Jolla Country Day School was arrested Monday morning on multiple charges of engaging in illicit sexual activity with a minor, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police arrested Cesar Don Juan Flores, 26, at his apartment in the Bay Ho neighborhood Monday morning, officers said.
Earlier this month, the department's sex crimes unit received a tip that Flores was engaging in sexual activity with a student, according to Monica Munoz, a department spokeswoman. Detectives began investigating and interviewed Flores, the 17-year-old student and school officials, police said.
After his arrest, Flores was being held at the San Diego Central Jail in lieu of $60,000 bail, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Munoz said that Flores was an assistant coach for the boys basketball team who didn't teach at the school. Munoz said he's no longer working there. School officials couldn't be reached for comment Monday.
The police department is asking that anyone with information about the case call the department's sex crime unit at (619) 531-2210 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-TIPS.
