A sewage spill fouled a stretch of ocean shoreline in La Jolla today.
The overflow of wastewater from a private sanitation line on Coast Boulevard was reported shortly after 10 a.m., according to the county Department of Environmental Health.
By the time crews got the problem under control about 90 minutes later, roughly 200 gallons of effluent had flowed into a storm drain that empties into La Jolla Cove, the DEH reported.
Signs warning of contamination hazards in the area will remain in place until follow-up tests deem the waters there safe for recreational uses.
