SAN DIEGO - Two sewage spills fouled stretches of ocean coastline in the Torrey Pines and La Jolla Shores areas today, officials said.
A broken sanitation pipeline at Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course began sending wastewater into a small canyon adjacent the shoreline about noon, the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health reported.
The DEH posted pollution warning signs along a 600-foot section of state beach in the area.
Several miles to the south, a sewer glitch at Scripps Institution of Oceanography sent an undetermined amount of effluent into a storm drain system north of Scripps Pier, according to the health department.
The DEH declared a 3,000-foot stretch of La Jolla Shores Beach off-limits to recreational uses pending further notice.
