ESCONDIDO -- The Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that it is endorsing Mayor Lori Pfeiler, Councilwoman Marie Waldron and candidate Dick Daniels in the Nov. 7 City Council race.

Pfeiler and Waldron are incumbents seeking re-election. Daniels is one of six outsiders vying for two open council seats on the dais.

All three of the candidates endorsed by the Escondido Chamber of Commerce are members. Daniels served two years ago as board president of the organization.

Of the other council candidates, only Darol Caster, who did not participate in a forum on Sept. 19, is a member.

Harvey Mitchell, chief executive officer, said the endorsements were based on candidate forums the chamber held last month.

"It has nothing to do with membership," Mitchell said. "We went back through (the transcripts) and looked at it. And based on their answers and their record, we felt these were the best folks for the job, from the business viewpoint."

The other candidates for council include: Erik Richard, president and chief executive of the Lake San Marcos Resort; Olga Diaz, owner of Blue Mug Coffee & Tea; Carmen Miranda, a teacher assistant; and Liz Gabrych, chairwoman of the Housing Advisory Committee and co-owner and operator of an Encinitas mobile-home park.

Former Councilman Tom D'Agosta is challenging Pfeiler for the mayorship.

All of the candidates are scheduled to participate in a televised forum hosted by the California League of Women Voters at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9.
