College to host
information meetings
MURRIETA --The Azusa Pacific University Murrieta Regional Center will host a School of Education informational meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The APU Murrieta facility offers programs to obtain a variety of teaching credentials, a master of arts in education or a combined credential, master's program.
The center is at 39573 Los Alamos Road. For information, call Abena Salvant or Maria Buffington at 304-3400.
Great Oak
honors volunteer
TEMECULA -- Lynn Laing was chosen as the Great Oak High School 2006 Volunteer of the Year. She was honored recently at the school's second annual volunteer luncheon.
Among her efforts, Laing hosted a staff appreciation lunch, conducted workshops about home improvement and retirement planning for staff members and provided incentives for the school's monthly staff honors program. Laing, community relations manager at California Coast Credit Union, also held personal finance and job skills seminars and coordinated a high school career day to help establish Great Oak's college and career center.
Laing worked with the recent Relay for Life at the school as well as serving on the board of Temecula Valley Unified School District Partners in Education and sitting on the district's Secondary Curriculum Committee.

awards scholarships
Jillian Marie Cook of Temecula Valley High School was among 17 Riverside County high school graduates to receive scholarships from the Altura Credit Union Foundation. She received $1,000.
The program was open to high school seniors in the county who are planning on attending college in the fall. The recipients were selected based on their academic record, extracurricular activities, financial need and an essay detailing their college goals. A total of $16,450 was awarded to the recipients.
Romero graduates
from college
MURRIETA -- Daisy Romero of Murrieta graduated from Boston University in May. She earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism.
She was among more than 5,400 students to be awarded degrees.
