MURRIETA - A checkpoint held by the police Friday night and early Saturday resulted in three arrests of drivers suspected of being intoxicated and 14 citations for license violations, officials said in a release.
Officers set up the checkpoint on northbound Margarita Road north of Torrey Pines Road at 8:20 p.m. Friday and curtailed enforcement at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Sean Hadden said. In that interval, 1,212 vehicles went through the checkpoint and 683 were screened, Hadden said. In addition to the arrests and citations, officers had 17 vehicles impounded, according to the release.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant to the city from the state Office of Traffic Safety, a division of the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, officials said.
