BORREGO SPRINGS -- A motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash that blocked traffic in the area for several hours, authorities said.

The crash was reported just after 1:30 p.m. on Montezuma Valley Road at mile marker seven, east of Ranchita, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The motorcyclist suffered head injuries and was not breathing when authorities arrived, the CHP said.

The roadway reopened just before 6 p.m., the highway patrol reported.
