OCEANSIDE -- A man who police said committed suicide Friday after reportedly setting his mobile home on fire was identified as an Oceanside man who suffered from cancer, an investigator for the county medical examiner's office said Sunday.
Isorada Finocchiaro, a 62-year-old painter, suffered from renal cancer and chronic pain from a shoulder surgery, the investigator said.
According to authorities, Finocchiaro set fire to his home on the 1000 block of South Cleveland Street at about 3:45 p.m. Friday and then fled the scene by bicycle to McCabe's Bar, at 1145 Tremont St.
After having a few drinks with friends, Finocchiaro, whose clothes were still smoldering, pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head just before 5 p.m.
Finocchiaro was pronounced dead at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla.
He is survived by a son, the medical examiner's investigator said.
