CARLSBAD - A project to improve a main sewage pipeline system that runs along Buena Vista Lagoon will go before the City Council on Tuesday.
At its 6 p.m. meeting, the council will be asked to award a contract to Brown & Caldwell Inc. of San Diego for preliminary design work to improve the high-pressure, "forcemain" sewer line along the south side of the lagoon. Part of the pipe broke in April 2007, causing a massive sewage spill into the lagoon.
A city staff report indicates the engineering company will look into designing a parallel line along the lagoon as well as making improvements to the existing line.
The preliminary design report, environmental review and permits are expected to cost $156,511, according to the city report. Vista will pay 89.6 percent of the amount, and Carlsbad will owe the remaining 10.4 percent, as the report notes the cost is based on how much each city uses the pipe.
Tuesday's meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Agenda information can be found at: http://www.carlsbadca.gov/chall/4councilmtg.html
