Two parked cars were heavily damaged in a suspected arson early Thursday, a Carlsbad police lieutenant said.
An off-duty San Diego firefighter called 911 at 5:17 a.m. to report the fire in the 2500 block of La Golondrina Street, Lt. Matt Magro said.
When police and firefighters arrived, they found two parked vehicles engulfed in flames, Magro said, including a BMW sedan.
The San Diego firefighter reported hearing a vehicle speed away before he looked outside and saw the two cars on fire, Magro said.
The Carlsbad police and fire departments are conducting parallel investigations, Magro said.
