Jeanne Brandone and Cheryl Lindsay have something in common beyond their love of scrapbooking. They are both huge fans of 2008 "American Idol" winner David Cook.

How huge? Consider this:

The two women, "not exactly spring chickens," in the words of Brandone, have spent the better part of the last month putting together an 84-page scrapbook all about Cook. Inside are some 370 photographs they collected off the Internet, artistically presented on decorated pages.

It took Brandone, a Carlsbad resident, and Lindsay, who lives in Oceanside, about 100 hours to create. And they have high hopes for the next step in the process.

They plan to bring the book with them when they attend Cook's concert Thursday evening at the San Diego County Fair. Brandone and Lindsay have reserved seats up close, and hope to catch their "Idol" before he takes the stage and give him the book.

"I don't know if we'll get past security, but we'll see if we can get past and meet him. That's our goal," Brandone said. "We must get a picture of him with us and the scrapbook. That would be terrific. It would almost make all the hours we spent (making the scrapbook) worthwhile."

Brandone works at Ever After Scrapbooks in Vista, where Lindsay is a member of the design team. But the two had never met until Lindsay overheard Brandone talking about "American Idol" and how much she liked Cook.

"She came around the corner and said, 'I love David Cook, too,'" Brandone said.

The 40-something Brandone and 60-something Lindsay have gotten their share of kidding from their scrapbooking colleagues.

"Everybody laughs at us at the store. They think it's funny, these two older ladies liking David Cook," Brandone said. "We don't care. We're just having fun. Looking at 350 pictures of him wasn't bad, either."

Trio of fame: Three Vista pioneers will be inducted into the Vista Historical Society's Hall of Fame at the group's annual meeting on Saturday.

Frank Delpy, Frank Meyer and Ralph T. Brengle were elected to the early residents division of the hall, which was formed in 1989. They join 43 previous inductees recognized for their contributions to the city.

Delpy, the son of early settlers Jules and Maria Delpy, served on the Vista Irrigation District board from its inception until his death in 1948.

Meyer was Vista's mayor from 1973-76 after many years of community service with Kiwanis, Elks, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Vista Boys Club. He helped establish Lifeline and the Vista Coordinating Council.

Brengle gave money to the Boys Club for a new gym and donated 39 acres of land to the city on which Brengle Terrace Park was built.

The lunch meeting is at 11:30 a.m. at Elks Lodge No. 1968, 1947 E. Vista Way. Cost is $25. Call 760-630-0444.

Slip-slidin: X Games champion Andy Macdonald hops off his skateboard and into the water Thursday at La Costa Resort. He'll be the first guy down the 120-foot water slide as the resort kicks off its Slider's Cup competition. Races to determine the fastest person down the slide will be held at 5 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the summer, with the grand-prize winner receiving a two-day resort stay certificate. No word on whether Macdonald, who performed a skateboard jump over Jay Leno's desk on "The Tonight Show," has any tricks in store for the water slide.

Talented team: A vocal rendition of "I Could Have Danced All Night" from "My Fair Lady" earned Players Club representative Margarita Paz the $3,000 first prize at last week's Valley View Casino Team Member Talent Show. Phone system manager Katie Belardes won the $1,000 second prize with an original stand-up comedy routine. Casino hosts Charles Contreras, Celine Carrion, Jennifer Fasulo and Shakira Michaels split the $500 third prize for their song-and-dance routine to "Hit the Road, Jack."
