A team effort by officials of the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce managed to bring together quite a team of all-stars for the group's Celebration of Business on Sunday.

Special guests at the chamber's installation event and fundraiser for the San Diego North Education Foundation are Tony Gwynn and his daughter Anisha, a professional singer; former National Football League coach Denny Green; Padres owner Jeff Moorad; Chargers lineman Luis Castillo; and former major-leaguer Tom Brunansky.

Chief executive Debra Rosen, board member Alicia Gwynn and new director of business development Lance Witmondt combined their contact lists to attract the big-name speakers. The celebrities will talk with the expected 200-plus guests about their mentors and whom they mentor today.

"It's going to be a fascinating evening," said Rosen.

Some one-of-a-kind auction items will bring in support for the education foundation, which matches high school and college students with business mentors and awards scholarships to students attending trade schools.

Guests can bid on a dinner for 10 at the Gwynns' home or a morning in the XX Sports 1090 studios with Billy Ray Smith and Scott Kaplan. All proceeds from the auction go to the foundation.

Tickets remain available through Thursday for the event, 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Maderas Golf Club. Call 858-487-1767.

Changeover: Vista's Chamber turned over its board leadership at its Monday installation luncheon. Taking over as chairman is Cliff Kaiser. He replaces Steve Harrington, who in his year in charge oversaw the creation of partnerships with the San Diego World Trade Center and California Center for Sustainable Energy, as well as the founding of Vista magazine. Jonathon Cuyno received the Chairman's Award, and Paula Waring was named Rookie of the Year.

In the news: The television news business in Palm Springs has a definite North County influence. A pair of young people whose dads are no strangers to our local media were winners of Emmy awards in the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the Academy of Arts and Sciences competition this month. Anne Marie Petersen, a San Pasqual High School graduate, won as producer of the Best Evening Newscast. Her colleague at KESQ-TV in Palm Springs, Tamara Damante, won an Emmy for team coverage of "Wicked Winter Weather." Damante graduated from Orange Glen High School. Her father, Angelo Damante, is the president of Mercedes-Benz of Escondido. Petersen's dad, Rich Petersen, is the former editor of the North County Times. Both young women attended the University of San Diego.

Idol talk: Escondido has its singing "Idol" for 2009. Jackie Foster claimed the honor in Saturday's competition at the Patio Playhouse. Mary Evart was the runner-up. The "Junior Idol" is Rachel Martinez. A full house of nearly 100 spectators chose the winners from the field of 22 vocalists who "all did an amazing job," according to director Lynnea Weissman. As did judge Scott Kolod, who made sure Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul were in the house with some amusing impersonations of the "American Idol" judges.

Fair bits: A frequently photographed site at the San Diego County Fair is Michelle Dougherty's flower and garden display featuring a 9-foot Kodiak bear and a cub holding guitars. The fir-bark covered sculptures represent the Music Mania theme with the title "Musical Bear of the County Fair." The Escondido resident won an award of merit for the display, which can be found outside and behind the building that hosts the flower exhibits. … Escondido Union School Board trustee Zoe Carpenter displays a hidden talent, winning an honorable mention award for her photograph of a cat cuddling a doll.
