TEMECULA - The Hot Summer Nights free concert series will conclude Friday in Old Town. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.

The Bayou Brothers, a zydeco band, will headline at Third and Old Town Front streets at Butterfield Square.

The Lake Elsinore-based Silverado Bluegrass Band will perform at the Mercantile from 7 to 9 p.m. Viento Libre Viento Libre, an Andean pan flute band, will play the sounds of the Andes with handmade flutes, drums and instruments from 7 to 9 p.m. at Serendipity on Main Street. Two of Us plus One will also perform.

Children's games will be conducted at J Gordon Specialties and The Imagination Workshop, Temecula children's museum, provides free popcorn on the porch and a special $2 admission rate from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

  • Elsinore Valley Arts Network Music With a View summer concert concludes Saturday with the Inland Valley Symphony. There will be a preconcert "petting zoo," where children can view the instruments the musicians play during the concert. There will also be vocalists.

Sons of Norway meet Saturday

TEMECULA - The Sons of Norway's Temecula Lodge will meet at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Mellman Library.

Networking group to gather

TEMECULA - Self defense will be the topic when Temecula Connection, a business networking group for women, meets from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at Plantation House.

"Self Defense for Professional People" will be the topic for Cynthia Nordskog of West Coast TaekwonDo.

GOP group to view film

TEMECULA - The Murrieta-Temecula Republican Assembly Club will host the premier of the movie "Hillary's Smoking Gun" when it meets at Sept. 7.

The movie was produced by Pat Matriciana, producer of the "Clinton Chronicles," and Doug Cogan, a real estate broker, writer and former Internet radio show host.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at Pat & Oscars, 29375 Rancho California Road, Temecula. The cost, which includes a buffet dinner, is $15 for members, $20 for guests and $10 for students age 25 and younger.

Rotary Club plans symphony

TEMECULA - The Temecula Sunrise Rotary Club will bring the California Chamber Orchestra to Wilson Creek Winery on Sept. 9 for the fifth annual Vineyard Symphony at Sunset.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with the sounds of the Temecula Valley Harp Society, while guests can taste Wilson Creek wines and hors d'oeuvres and bid on silent auction items.

Tickets are $60, which includes a glass of wine and the hors d'oeuvres. Dinner will be available for $15 to $20 per person. Proceeds will go to local Rotary charities and scholarships.

Warren Gref, conductor of the California Chamber Orchestra, will surrender the baton to the winner of a live auction bid to conduct the orchestra in the playing of the "Star Spangled Banner" to open the evening's program. The orchestra will begin performing about 7:30 p.m. The program will include a broad selection of light classical and popular music.

Moms' prayer group to meet

TEMECULA - Moms in Touch will have a roundup at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Calvary Chapel Bible Fellowship.

Moms in Touch involves two or more moms who meet for one hour each week to pray for their children, their schools, their teachers and administrators.

Corvette group plans rally

TEMECULA - Corvettes of Temecula Valley will hold its fourth annual Day of Wine and Roses on Sept. 15 at South Coast Winery Resort and Spa.

Registration is due Sept. 10 and is $100 per car. The event will include poker and hidden-time rallies, a raffle, silent auction and lunch.

Twirlers to offer dance classes

CANYON LAKE - The Canyon Lake Twirlers will offer weekly classes for new dancers starting Sept. 12 at the Canyon Lake Lodge.

Classes run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and all ages are welcome.

The cost is a $5 donation per class, with the first class free.

Support group plans luncheon

MURRIETA - Shoshannah Hadassah, a support group for Hadassah Medical Organization, will host its annual membership luncheon at 11 a.m. Sept. 27 at Richie's Diner.

Museum friends seek donations

TEMECULA - Friends of the Temecula Children's Museum is asking for donations of new or gently used books and magazines about science, nature, engineering, etc. for resale in the museum gift shop.

Books may be dropped off at the museum's Imagination Workshop, 42081 Main St., in Old Town.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

Instructional material up for review

TEMECULA - The Temecula Valley Unified School District will display instructional materials in the subject area of high school English, science, social science and performing arts for the purpose of public review. The materials will be accessible from Thursday to Sept. 12.

They will be on display in the lobby of the district administration center, 31350 Rancho Vista Road, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Community members are invited to review the books and provide comments on a review form, which will be available at the viewing table. Forms will be reviewed as part of the textbook adoption process.

CASA seeking more volunteers

TEMECULA - Court Appointed Special Advocates, a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers to advocate for abused, neglected and abandoned foster children in the court system, will have orientations for potential volunteers from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 and 27.

Volunteers do not need previous court experience, but background checks are required. Free training is provided.

The orientations will be at Southwest Juvenile Hall Conference Room, 30755-D Auld Road. Training will be in Moreno Valley in October and November.
