Progressive hike offered at Daley Ranch
ESCONDIDO - Naturalist Don Parnell will lead a 75-mile progressive hike on all the trails of Daley Ranch from Oct. 3 through 7.
Hikers can join for a day, two days or all five days. Participants who complete all five days will receive a certificate of completion. These sometimes-strenuous hikes will begin at different locations each day and range from 13 to 17 miles in length. Bring at least two quarts of water and snacks/lunch for the hikes.

Fiesta With Friends on tap
ESCONDIDO - St. Mary's annual Fiesta With Friends will take place Oct. 5 through 7 at the church, 1160 S. Broadway.
The free event will feature carnival rides and games, food, drinks, a wine-and-cheese tasting, live entertainment, a Fiesta Queen, opportunity drawings, a Friday night spaghetti dinner and a Sunday morning breakfast. American Legion Auxiliary to host sale, breakfast
ESCONDIDO - The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 149 will hold a parking lot sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 in the parking lot of the Veterans Memorial Building, 230 E. Park Ave. Proceeds will benefit veterans, youths, community services and other programs of the auxiliary.

Youth basketball league offered
ESCONDIDO - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego will begin another season of boys and girls basketball in December.

Fallbrook Food Pantry plans walk
FALLBROOK - The Fallbrook Food Pantry is joining with other food drives around the country to sponsor a second Thanksgiving walk/run to feed the hungry. Fallbrook's event will take place at 9 a.m. Nov. 10, with registration at 8:30 a.m.
The Thanksgiving tradition to Run to Feed the Hungry began in 1994 when Gaylord Walker organized the first run as a benefit for the Sacramento Food Bank. Nearly 800 runners turned out for that event, and since then, the event has grown to nearly 15,000 participants.
Last year, approximately 100 people of all ages participated, and the Fallbrook Food Pantry received more than $6,300. Organizers hope to double that amount this year.
People can help by taking part in the event as a runner or walker or as a sponsor. Forms are available at the Fallbrook Food Pantry, 1042 S. Mission Road, between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. weekdays, at Major Market or through many local churches.
Forms and donations should be turned in before the race's 8:30 a.m. start time. All entrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt. The race begins and ends at the Fallbrook Food Pantry. Food pantry staff members will provide the runners and walkers with a light breakfast after they finish the race.
