Theater workshops for teachers offered

OCEANSIDE -- New Vision Theatre at Sunshine Brooks Theater is offering workshops for drama instructors and other teachers, as well as actors.

The Saturday morning sessions will be taught by drama teacher and director Eliane Weidauer. Her focus will be drama teachers and presenting good ideas to warm up students before they take part in readings.

Weidauer's workshops will be followed by afternoon sessions taught by Eric Frydler, producer, director, musical director and composer, who will focus on individual development.

- "Theatre Games," to begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 18, will offer some fresh new games to inspire and energize students. Participants will learn ice-breakers including "87 Ways to Say Hello" and "Pass the What?" Dress in comfortable clothes and tennis shoes, and bring a favorite game to share. Cost is $29.

- "The Lightening Bolt Approach to Acting" will be offered at noon on Aug. 18. Participants will learn about character development strategies. They'll find out what is at stake for a character and find it within themselves. Cost is $39.

- "Readers Theatre Across the Curriculum," to begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 25, will look at new ways to take any material from any discipline and create a personalized readers theater presentation. It will also show ways to help students remember dates and facts. Cost is $29.

- "The Lightening Bolt Approach to Writing," to be offered at noon on Aug. 25, will help participants find their writer's voice. Cost is $39.

'Frankenstein' workshop starts today

CARLSBAD -- Classic Youth Theatre Inc. will offer a "Frankenstein" workshop from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today through Aug. 9 and 13 to 14. Cost is $85. For more information, call Loralie McGill at (760) 730-9447.

Kiwanis scholarships offered

VISTA -- The Kiwanis Club of Sunrise Vista has established a scholarship for students currently enrolled in or who have graduated from a public or private school within the Vista Unified School District boundaries, who show a special interest or aptitude in visual or performing arts. This opportunity includes students enrolled at MiraCosta and Palomar colleges. Qualifications -- including school enrollment, grade point average, planned use of funds and a recommendation from a teacher or adviser -- are listed on the application form. This is an open-ended scholarship not subject to time constraints and has no termination period. AUDITIONS:

'Guys and Dolls'

Star Theatre and Coast Kids Theatre will hold auditions for ages 12 to adult for "Guys and Dolls," the classic musical about Times Square gamblers. There will be both youth cast and teen/adult cast productions. Auditions will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 13 through 15 at the Star Theater, 402 N. Coast Highway, Oceanside. 'Grease'

The Fallbrook Players will hold auditions for ages 10 to 18 for a family-friendly version of the '50s rock 'n' roll musical "Grease" from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 20 at Live Oak Elementary School, Fallbrook. The show will run Oct. 12 through 28. Call (760) 723-6673.

San Diego North Coast Singers
