Boys & Girls Club campaign has quiet kickoff

FALLBROOK - Due to the recent fires, the Boys & Girls Club, Lead Off-Hitters Luncheon for the "Step Up to the Plate Campaign" was canceled; however, the campaign was implemented with no fanfare Nov. 12. All donors from last year's campaign have been mailed letters asking them to consider renewing their support for this year's campaign. The goal is to raise $200,000. An event to celebrate the conclusion of the campaign will be held in mid-January. Details will follow.

The campaign features five mock baseball teams competing against one another to see which one can raise the most money on behalf of the club. The five teams are Yankees with team owner Patrick Marelly, Padres with team owner Jack Rockwell, Angels with team owner Greg Munro, Dodgers with team owner Mark Fabela and Mariners with team owner Doug Woods.

Louise Small, commissioner for the campaign said, "Due to the recent fires, our kids need our club more than ever. Our club provides a safe place for kids to come to after school during the critical hours from 2 to 6 p.m., when kids need guidance and adult supervision. Over 800 children per day participate in club activities at our 10 locations. Our club is a safe haven for our youth."

All donations to the campaign are tax-deductible and support the five core programs offered at the club, which are Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; the Arts; Health and Life Skills; Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

People interested in supporting the campaign should contact the club at (760) 728-5871. Various levels of sponsorship are available.
