Center for the Blind offers classes
VISTA - The San Diego Center for the Blind in Vista will begin its new semester this month. The center offers a variety of classes, including cooking, computer, Braille, arts and crafts, sensory training, activities of daily living, group and individual counseling. RANCHO BERNARDO - The Palomar College Foundation will host the Fairway to Education Golf Classic on Oct. 11 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course.
Shot-gun start will be at noon. The scramble format tournament will feature contests and cash prizes. Members of Palomar College's golf team will be on hand to hit players ball on select holes.

Trail patrol training offered

Trail patrol volunteers assist the San Dieguito River Park rangers to patrol established trails within the park, meet park visitors, answer questions and identify trail problems and maintenance needs. First-aid training is included and will be provided at a later date.

Parliamentarians to convene in San Diego
SAN DIEGO - The California State Association of Parliamentarians will hold its 60th annual Convention from Oct. 18 through 20 at the Handlery Hotel in Mission Valley.
CSAP specializes in providing training in meeting procedures and parliamentarian services to clubs, associations, unions, governmental agencies, homeowner associations, fraternal and other types of organizations using Robert's Rules of Order as their meeting authority. The state president is Jacqueline Marazzi of Escondido.
Four workshops that are open to the public will be offered Oct. 19 at a cost of $25. "The Art & Science of Presiding" and "The Community Association's Professional Team" will be offered from 2 to 3:15 p.m. and "Let's Have Fun Teaching (Parliamentary Procedures)"; and "How to Start and Market a Business for Parliamentarians" will be held from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

Boating skills course offered
ESCONDIDO - The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a "Boating Skills and Seamanship" class, which will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Escondido Chamber of Commerce.
Taught by experienced U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors, the course is designed for all boaters, especially those who are new to boating. A certificate will be awarded upon completion. The California Legislature is in the process of conducting hearings and writing a law to make it mandatory for boaters to pass a boating safety class before operating a boat in the state's waters. The course will satisfy the new law when it is enacted.

NORTH COUNTY - The Flips Booster Club is seeking donations to send gymnasts Aubree Balkan of Carlsbad and Kaci Barry of Rancho Bernardo to the 2007 World Championships to be held Nov. 1 through 3 in Quebec City, Canada.
In addition, gymnasts Nicole Mahoney, Victoria Lockwood, Gaither Rosser and Jay Tibbitts of Scripps Ranch, Hillary Nokes of Rancho Bernardo and Ryan Roberts of Ramona will compete in the 2007 World Age-Group event scheduled from Nov. 7 through 10 in Canada. All of the athletes train at GTC Academy in Poway with coaches Glenn Wilson and Doug Boger.
