TEMECULA - The Temecula Police Department is holding its annual Bicycle Safety Poster Contest at all 19 elementary schools in the Temecula Valley Unified School District.
There are contests for kindergarten through second grade, and third through fifth grade.
Winners of each group receive a bicycle and helmet and the second-place finisher receives a helmet.
The program is sponsored by Temecula City Councilwoman Maryann Edwards and Better World Together Foundation.
Triple Threat team scores at competition
Triple Threat Academy placed third at the Thunderstruck Regional Dance Competition last month at Lakewood High School.
The team scored Lightning Gold, the highest possible ranking, and was also awarded the Judge's Choice Award for Most Refreshing Performance.
The performing arts studio had 20 performers among the 360 performances over the two-day competition.
Triple Threat's competition team was formed in January. Members performed selections from "Once on This Island."

Young Child Celebration set at MSJC
MENIFEE - A Day of the Young Child celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mt. San Jacinto College Menifee Valley campus.
The free event is geared for children up to the age of 8 and their families. The annual festival will feature activities for children while providing educational displays and information about resources for their parents.
Activities will include a petting zoo, fire department water brigade, arts and crafts, face painting and photo booth, a book fair, refreshments and entertainment.

Muslim youth to present program
TEMECULA - "Neighborhood Enlightenment" a campaign designed for young Muslims to offer presentations and public education on Islam, will be held at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Mellman Library.
Presentation topics will be "Islam, a Closer Look" and "Women in Islam." There will be international sweets and other food.
The presentation was created in cooperation of selected Islamic Center Youth Groups in and around the area. Center officials said the youths are doing the presentation to make it more on a personal levels, as opposed to having scholars or Iman's speak.

Rummage sale to benefit team
MURRIETA - A rummage sale to benefit the Vista Murrieta High School volleyball team will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the school.

Ballroom dance set for Saturday
TEMECULA - An Easter ballroom dance will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Temecula Community Center.

Candles to mark holiday
SUN CITY - More than 100 families will light special yellow candles Sunday to observe Yom Hashoah. The candles will be lit in homes as part of an effort to increase awareness of the Holocaust and perpetuate the memory of the 6 million Jews who were lost during those years.
The candles are being distributed by Temple Beth Sholom Men's Club as part of a program sponsored by Conservative and Reform synagogues. Hundreds of temples and other Jewish organizations across North America are expected to participate.

Kindergarten registration starts next week
LAKE ELSINORE - The Lake Elsinore Unified School District will host registration for incoming kindergarteners starting next week.
To register a child for kindergarten, parents must provide their child's proof of residency, a certified birth certificate and immunization records. Children who will be 5 years old by Dec. 2 qualify to register for kindergarten.
Registration will be held Monday Thursday for Butterfield, Donald Graham and Jean Hayman elementary schools.
Cottonwood, Earl Warren, Elsinore and Tuscany Hills registration will be April 23-26, Luiseno, Machado, Railroad Canyon and Ronald Reagan April 30-May 3 and Rice Canyon, Wildomar, William Collier and Withrow May 7-10.
Registration will be taken 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the district enrollment center, 530 Chaney St.

Computer course to begin
LAKE ELSINORE - The Lake Elsinore Senior Center will offer a series of computer classes beginning Tuesday.
Introduction to Computer Basics, Basic Internet and Basic Peripherals will be taught. Classes, which are open to all adults, meet Tuesday and Thursday for two weeks.

Adult school offers classes
MURRIETA - A number of classes will be offered by Murrieta Valley Adult School beginning next week.
Basic Office Skills begins at 6 p.m. Monday, a poetry workshop at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Back to the Beatles at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and MS Excel at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. A beginning sign language class will start May 2.
All of the courses cost $60, except the poetry workshop, which is $80. They meet for two hours once a week for six weeks. The poetry workshop meets for eight weeks.
Also beginning next week are two computer courses for seniors.
Introduction to Computers begins Wednesday and Introduction to Internet starts Thursday. The classes meet from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. for four weeks and cost $45 each.

Stroke screenings to be offered
TEMECULA - Screenings to measure the risk of having a stroke will be offered beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Elsinore Community Center.
A stroke is ranked as the third leading killer in the world, and the second among women. Screenings involve the use of ultrasound technology, and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. Also offered is a bone density screening to assess the risk of osteoporosis.
The checks are offered by Life Line Screening, the nation's leading provider of vascular screenings. All four screenings take less than an hour to complete. The cost is $129.

Dealing with grief topic of talk
