Men's group plans target shooting event
BONSALL -- Men on Purpose, the men's ministry of Riverview Church, will take part in a target shooting gathering from 9 a.m. to noon March 18 at the North County Shootists Association in Pala. Senior center plans casino trip
FALLBROOK -- The Fallbrook Senior Center will is sponsoring a trip to Casino Pauma March 15. The bus leaves the Fallbrook Senior Center at 399 Heald Lane at 9:30 a.m. and returns about 4:15 p.m.
Cost is $7, which includes the driver's tip. Each person will receive a $10 free coin coupon and may purchase breakfast for $1.95 until 11 a.m. A senior buffet is available at 1 p.m. for $2.95 and offers all you can eat with dessert.

Donations sought for shower for expectant military moms
FALLBROOK -- Fallbrook resident and community volunteer Eileen Delaney is seeking donations of baby items for a shower for Camp Pendleton military mothers-to-be.
The shower is being organized by Kim Felshaw and is scheduled for 2 p.m. May 27 at South Shores Baptist Church, 32712 Crown Valley Parkway in Monarch Beach.
Delaney, head of Operation United Families, said supporting this endeavor is one way the Fallbrook and Bonsall communities can show their support and appreciation for the sacrifices military families make. Health fair planned
FALLBROOK -- A community health fair, sponsored by the Fallbrook Healthcare District, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 at the Fallbrook Community Center, 341 Heald Lane.
The event will feature free screenings for diabetes, blood pressure, vision, bone density and body fat. Those attending can sample healthy snacks, take part in nutrition and fitness education and win raffle prizes.

Hospital expands faith/health partnership
POWAY -- Palomar Pomerado Health's Faith & Health Partnership Program has announced the addition of Ner Tamid Synagogue in Poway to its network of faith communities, the first Jewish faith partner to join the program. The synagogue's first event will be a community health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30.
PPH is the only hospital in the county to offer a Faith & Health Partnership Program, which has been in existence for nine years. Over the past year, the program's membership has grown more than 62 percent, increasing the number of faith groups it serves to 26.
Groups in the program receive health education and information, speakers and resources they might not otherwise have access to. The program also helps faith groups plan healthy living classes, support groups and community health fairs.

Wild mustang, burro adoption set
RAMONA -- The Bureau of Land Management will offer 80 wild mustangs and 20 burros to qualified adopters through its Adopt-a Horse or Burro Program at the Ramona Community Center Fairgrounds, 421 Aqua Lane. Potential adopters can view the animals beginning at 7 a.m. March 11 and 12.
Adopters will receive a bidder number once their application is approved, which they must have to participate in the competitive bid portion of the adoption from 9 to 10 a.m. March 11. Animals not selected during the competitive bid will be available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis at $125 per animal from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 11 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 12.

Students invited to enter essay contest

Rodeo pageant contestants sought
POWAY -- Contestants are being sought for the 2006 Poway Rodeo Queens Pageant. A mandatory orientation meeting for all interested young women will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 8 at the Poway Valley Riders Association.
Contestants for the Poway Rodeo Queen title must be between the ages of 17 and 23, and contestants for the Junior Queen title must be between the ages of 12 and 16. Contestants younger than 18 must be accompanied to the orientation meeting by a parent or guardian. Those ages 18 and older are encouraged to attend the meeting with a parent or guardian. All contestants must be single, reside in San Diego County and have a sufficient knowledge of horses and the sport of rodeo. Contestants will be required to pay a $250 entry fee at the first pageant rehearsal March 15. The entry fee may be offset by selling pageant advertising and tickets.

'Rendezvous' to bring history to life
POWAY -- The city and the Old Poway Park Action Committee will host the 2006 Rendezvous in Poway from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 11 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 12 at Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. Admission is free.
Featuring 15 historical encampments, Rendezvous in Poway will offer visitors the opportunity to learn about California history as it is brought to life in the park. There will be campfires, Civil War era cannon and rifle firing demonstrations, authentic crafts and rides aboard the Poway Midland Railroad's 1907 Baldwin Steam Engine. Live musical performances will be held throughout the event, and food items will be available for sale.
Pre-booked educational tours for groups of 20 will be available March 10. Cost for the tour is $2 per person, which includes interactive learning stations, a trolley ride and entrance to the Nelson House and Heritage Museum. To book a tour, call (858) 668-4576 by March 6.

Fire department offers CPR classes
POWAY -- The city's fire department offers Heartsaver CPR classes from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of each month. In addition to adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation, instruction is given on how to reduce the risk of heart disease, how to assist choking victims and how to recognize the early signs of a heart attack. Hands-on skills are practiced on lifelike mannequins.
This is a certified class, and upon completion, a two-year card will be mailed to participants. The last two hours of the class are optional and cover CPR for infants and children. Class size is limited to 12 students. A $30 course fee must be paid in advance. The fee is $20 for ages 55 and older. Each participant will receive a manual, pocket mask and course participation card. Classes are held in the fire station classroom at 13050 Community Road.

Ramona group to stage 'Godspell'

'Pop Star' workshop offered

Vendors sought for San Marcos event
SAN MARCOS -- The city's Community Services department is seeking vendors for its annual Carnival of Cultures scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26 at the San Marcos Civic Center.
The Civic Center will be transformed into an international carnival where representatives from different cultures will educate and entertain children and adults of all ages. Participants are sought in three categories: food (one food item per booth), vendors (international crafts or products) and educational displays or hands-on activities.
There is no fee for educational displays or activities; however, all vendors must apply for admission into the event. Nonprofit groups will receive a discount and are encouraged to apply.

Senior center holds ballroom dance

Dog park ground breaking postponed
OCEANSIDE -- Due to inclement weather, the ground breaking for Oceanside's first dog park originally scheduled for March 2 has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. March 16 at the site adjacent to the North County Humane Society & SPCA, just south of the Oceanside Airport. The public is asked to help support this much needed project. Some of the sponsorship opportunities for the community to participate in include a naming opportunity for the dog park, an entrance, bridge or play area sponsorship, a bench or fountain sponsorship, banner sponsorship and purchasing personal engraved stone steps.
All of the sponsorship opportunities will help the shelter raise the funding it needs to complete the park and give donors a way to memorialize their contributions, advertise their business or recognize a beloved pet or loved one.

League of Women Voters to meet

Curious George birthday celebration set
OCEANSIDE -- Children and families are invited to the Oceanside Public Library for a special Curious George Birthday Celebration featuring special guest readers from the Oceanside Police Department, arts and crafts, Reading Club prize redemption and birthday cake. The celebration will take place at 11 a.m. May 13 at both the Civic Center and Mission Branch libraries.
Children in kindergarten through sixth grade can participate in the Curious George Reading Club. To take part, children can stop by any library location for an "I'm Curious, Too" Reading Log. Women's American ORT fundraiser at Outback
OCEANSIDE -- Outback Steakhouse will host a fundraiser for Women's American ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation through Training), Ocean Hills chapter, at noon March 18 at 2585 Vista Way. Donation is $20 per person, $10 for children 10 and younger. Menu includes steak, chicken or salmon, Ceasar salad, Aussie chips, beverage, cake and ice cream. Introduction to knotting class offered
OCEANSIDE -- Introduction to Knotting will be held from noon to 5 p.m. March 19 at the Oceanside Museum of Art, School of Art, 219 N. Coast Highway.
This versatile art form will be taught by fiber artist Carol E. Lang, who will be providing all the necessary materials. Knotting can produce both two-dimensional tapestries as well as three-dimensional baskets and coiled sculptural pieces. The class will explore the sculptural form using simple knots. The only tools involved are the hands and a pair of scissors. This class is for all levels of experience.

Tri-City Computer Club meets

Nominees sought for Vista Hall of Fame
VISTA -- The annual meeting of the Vista Historical Society will take place June 17 at the Shadowridge Country Club. The meeting will include induction of new members into the Vista Hall of Fame. Proposed members are chosen by the society board of directors after being nominated by a committee of existing Hall of Fame members, representatives of the city, Vista Irrigation District, Vista Unified School District, Chamber of Commerce, the historical society and others appointed by the board.
Each nominee bust have lived a minimum of 20 years in Vista, not necessarily consecutively. This criteria may be waved if it is not considered appropriate. Each nominee must have made significant contributions to the betterment of the community. Married couples who both meet the criteria may be nominated together. The nominee may be living or dead.
