Animal sanctuary is guest at store grand opening

FALLBROOK -- The new Fallbrook Kahoots Pet Supplies will sponsor the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary for pet adoptions at its Sept. 27 grand opening celebration.

There will be kittens and cats available per Kahoots' request. The adoptions will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Kahoots is at 1101 S. Main St. in the Fresh-N-Easy Center. The Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary, a "no-kill" sanctuary, has been serving the Fallbrook and North County communities for more than 15 years. They have taken in and cared for lost, feral and surrendered pets and have placed them in proper and secure homes.

Class picnic sponsored

FALLBROOK -- A picnic sponsored by the Fallbrook Union Class of 1958 for the classes of 1900 through 1970 and beyond will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 19 at Live Oak Park. Lunch will be served at noon for those who make reservations. Lunch costs $22; checks need to be sent to Darwin East, 25749 Sandy Lodge Road Sun City, CA 92586 by Oct. 1. For all those who are coming, but who don't want lunch, a $5 donation is requested toward the cost of the park and insurance, but it is not mandatory.

Senior driving classes offered

FALLBROOK -- The Fallbrook Senior Center, 399 Heald Lane, will offer the AARP Safe Driving Program Oct. 7 and 21. The class will begin at 8:30 a.m. Class size is limited so contact the center soon at (760) 728-4498 to secure a place. Fee is $10, payable upon registration. Make checks payable to AARP. Completion of the class allows for a reduction in automobile insurance premium.

Woman's club offers community volunteerism

BONSALL -- The Bonsall Woman's Club will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 2, in the Banquet Room at the San Luis Rey Downs Country Club, 31474 Golf Club Drive.

In between the general meeting and luncheon, the program will be "Come See What We're All About." It will focus on what the club has to offer prospective members who live in Bonsall and nearby communities and who are interested in community volunteerism.

BWC is a nonprofit organization, engaged in activities for the betterment of Bonsall and nearby communities, such as involvement in the arts, conservation, education, home life and international and public affairs. The club also offers an antiques study group, a chorus, beginning and intermediate bridge, creative writing, a book club, an arts festival and a monthly fun activity. "Magic of Christmas Tea" is its largest fundraiser, and benefits the Boys and Girls Club, college scholarships and local charities.

Guitar lessons offered

FALLBROOK -- The Fallbrook Community Center will offer a beginning guitar course Mondays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. from Sept. 29 through Nov. 17 at 341 Heald Lane.

Participants will learn the basic strum technique, how to read simple music, how to tune a guitar and how to perform in a fun environment. Those who have an acoustic guitar should bring them to class. Teacher is Gustavo Poletti. Class fee is $85 for eight weeks. Call (760) 723-9265.

Women's safety workshop offered

FALLBROOK -- A women's personal safety workshop will be offered from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 29 at Summer Ridge Apartments, 818 E. Alvarado St. The workshop is for women 18 and older; registration is required; no drop-ins. Free, but donations are welcome.

Presented by PivotPointe Media Group (Violence Against Women: Reclaiming Your Spirit Project), in partnership with Summer Ridge Apartments, and The Center for Community Solutions San Diego, this special women's safety workshop -- taught by the Center staff -- includes success stories; myths regarding sexual assault; personal safety (home/auto/out and about); assertiveness techniques; and physical defense. Question-and-answer session as well as helpful resources.
