Class of 1974 reunion to be held
VISTA -- The Vista High School class of 1974 will hold its 35-year reunion from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at Brengle Terrace Park, Area 6, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive. Oceanside student's patriotic essay displayed in Washington, D.C.
OCEANSIDE -- The Armed Services YMCA, the nation's leading nonprofit organization supporting military families, has recognized an award-winning essay written by third-grader Kiana Tuzon of Oceanside. On May 13, Kiana's essay was awarded second place in the third- and fourth-grade category at a Capital Hill luncheon in Washington, D.C. Kiana received a $100 savings bond for her essay and it will be displayed in the U.S. Senate's historic Russell Rotunda from June 29 through July 2 in an exhibit sponsored by U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl.
Moonlight Angels Auxiliary needs volunteers
VISTA -- The Moonlight Angels Auxiliary needs volunteers who can sell tickets at every show this summer at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. Assignments include walking through the audience promoting and selling tickets; ticket writers, who sit at tables and fill in the names and phone numbers on multiple ticket purchases; and supervisors, who coordinate the volunteers, keep records and reconcile the cash receipts. Supervisors must have previous experience or attend an orientation at 6 p.m. July 8 at the amphitheatre, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive. Volunteers who work three or more nights receive a season T-shirt. Summer Horse Program
RAMONA -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego-Ramona Branch and High Valley Ranch will provide a summer camp for beginners ages 6-14 from 8 a.m. to noon July 13 -17 or Aug. 10-14 at 25955 Highway 78. The cost is $125 for one week. The ranch will make a $25 donation to the club for each registration. Students will learn horse safety, care, grooming techniques, horse equipment, horse anatomy and stall maintenance as well as basic western style arena riding and riding balance techniques. Ballet dance camp offered
SAN MARCOS -- New West Ballet will hold summer dance camp for children ages 4-9 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 6 through 10 at the studio, 968 Rancheros Drive, # W. The cost is $125. No experience necessary. A finale presentation will be at 7 p.m. July 10.

Free smoke alarms for seniors
NORTH COUNTY -- The Burn Institute, community volunteers and members of various North County Fire Departments will take part in a collaborative effort to install lifesaving smoke alarms for qualified seniors living within San Diego County in March, April and May. Seniors residing within San Diego County who are 55 years or older, own their own home and do not have a working smoke alarm qualify for this free life-saving program.
