NORTH COUNTY - The Highway 101 Association will present the second Beach'n 101 Cruise from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 along Highway 101 between Oceanside and La Jolla.
Hundreds of cruisers driving antique, classic and race cars and hot rods will line the 101 through the quaint downtowns of North County. Spectators also are invited to view the vehicles at the Del Mar Fairgrounds starting at 1 p.m. until after the awards program, which begins at 2.

Events to benefit QUAD Foundation
NORTH COUNTY - The QUAD Foundation, a local nonprofit organization, will present a two-day fundraising event to benefit people living with quadriplegia.
On Sept. 9, Orfila Vineyard in Escondido will host a fine dining and wine-pairing extravaganza featuring cuisine from local restaurants. Local celebrity Phil Stone will serve as master of ceremonies as guests enjoy a scientific poster show highlighting renowned spinal cord injury research scientists and other resources for spinal cord injury survivors. There also will be live music, as well as silent and live auctions.
The sixth annual Fore Pete's Sake Golf Tournament will take place the following day at the Escondido Country Club. Tee time is at noon. An Italian dinner banquet and awards ceremony will follow the tournament.

Patriots Day blood drive set

Press club to host author Kathi Diamant

Kathi Diamant, on-air anchor/producer for San Diego's KPBS TV and Radio, will be the guest speaker. As an adjunct professor at San Diego State University, Diamant is the director of the Kafka Project, the international search to recover the missing writings of Franz Kafka. Her first book, "Kafka's Last Love - The Mystery of Dora Diamant," has received international acclaim and locally won the Theodore Geisel Award, "The Best of the Best" in the 2004 San Diego Book Awards.

Coastal Cleanup Day set for Sept. 15
SAN DIEGO - The 23rd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 15.
Volunteers can participate at 60 different coastal and inland cleanup sites throughout San Diego County, from the beaches of Tijuana to the trails of Fallbrook. This year's event strives to improve upon the successes of last year's, where a record-breaking 5,850 volunteers removed 196,966 pounds of debris from local waterways, beaches and inland areas.

Pacific Belles to hold Tea and Fashion Show
ESCONDIDO - "Classic Costume Curtain Call" will be the theme of the Pacific Belles Chapter of Sweet Adelines International's ninth annual Tea and Fashion Show set for Sept. 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 845 Chestnut St. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m., with the show to begin at 2.
Costumes from past Sweet Adelines competitions will be modeled by members accompanied by songs from each competition. Directed by Dick Fields, the Pacific Belles will perform songs from the group's repertoire and showcase its newest quartet, 4 on the Floor. Special guest quartet will be A Song and a Smile from the Palomar Pacific Men's Barbershop Chorus. Beverages and homemade goodies will be served. A raffle also is planned. Co-chairwomen for the event are Darlene Thorud, lead, and Mary Walman, baritone.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Proceeds from this event and other chorus events go to the Young Singers Foundation.

North County woman earns MBA
NORTH COUNTY - Jillian Morphis, a Carlsbad High School honors graduate and Cal State San Marcos summa cum laude graduate, recently earned a master's degree in business administration from San Diego State University.
Morphis completed the two-year course work program in one year. She is now working full-time as a recruiter at Access Nurses in Sorrento Valley.
Single seniors meet for dancing
