Hospice to hold benefit

TEMECULA - Guests at a fund-raiser Sunday can sample chocolate and wines from area vintners.

"A Day of Wine and Chocolate," a benefit for the patients of Hospice of the Valleys and their families, also will feature live and silent auctions, a chocolate bake-off, jazz and a gourmet picnic.

Foundation seeking volunteers

TEMECULA - The Make-A-Wish Foundation seeks volunteer wish-granters.

The organization grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers meet with the children, then work to make their wishes happen. For instance, Canyon Lake resident Laurie Hieter recently made the arrangement for a Murrieta child and his family to go on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas.

Walk for Life slated

TEMECULA - Birth Choice of Temecula will hold its second annual Walk for Life from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Temecula Sports Park.

Participants can walk half a mile to two miles, and if they can't make the event, they can walk another time.

The walker bringing in the most pledges for the organization will receive $100. There also will be refreshments and prize drawings.

Center serves area families

PERRIS - The nonprofit California Family Life Center helps grandparents and others raising younger relatives.

The Kin Care Program offers support groups, counseling, tutoring and assistance with legal guardianship to people living in Sun City, Perris, San Jacinto and Hemet. The center's offices are in Hemet and Perris.

Knights to hold golf tournament

TEMECULA - Proceeds from a golf tournament Oct. 10 will benefit participants in the local chapter of the Special Olympics.

The Knights of Columbus will hold its sixth annual tournament at Cross Creek Golf Club, 43860 Glen Meadows Road. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. The $90 entry fee includes a catered buffet dinner. For information or reservations, call Jeff Gehl at 698-5770.

Newcomers Club to hold luncheon

TEMECULA - The Tem-ecula Valley Newcomers Club will hold its monthly luncheon for new and prospective members Oct. 20.

Melodrama auditions Friday

Tickets on sale for studio tour

FALLBROOK - Tickets are on sale for the Gourd Artists Studio Tour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15.

Participants may tour the studios of Fallbrook Area Gourd Patch artists Betty Herrington, Peggy Wisler, Ruth Phillips and Jeanette Roll. There will be demonstrations, art pieces for sale and refreshments.

Pilots to fly for winning hand

FRENCH VALLEY - A poker run Oct. 11 will feature pilots hopscotching around regional airports to collect enough cards for a winning hand.

The run is the 12th put on by the Coyote Country Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, an organization of female pilots.

The event kicks off at 10:30 am. Oct. 11. In the case of rain, the poker run will move to Oct. 12.

LAKE ELSINORE - The Elsinore Woman's Club will host city candidates at its meeting Oct. 9.

Radio club to hold FCC license exam

MURRIETA - The Golden Triangle Amateur Radio Club will sponsor Federal Communications Commission license examinations Saturday.

Testing for amateur radio license classes is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Murrieta Fire Station No. 1, 41825 Juniper St. Applicants should bring a photo identification, supporting documentation if seeking credit for previous exam elements, copies of current or expired licenses and a check for $12 made payable to ARRL/VEC.

Auditions set for mystery weekend

TEMECULA - The Temecula Valley Players community theater group will hold auditions for performances during the Erle Stanley Gardner Mystery Weekend set for Nov. 1 and 2 in Old Town.

Over the weekend, spectators will pick up clues, view dramatized clues and watch the stage-adapted performance of a Perry Mason script, where the culprit of the mystery will be revealed. Auditions will be held 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Temecula Community Recreation Center, 30875 Rancho Vista.

University women to hold fund-raiser

TEMECULA - A fund-raiser Oct. 4 will feature Temecula flutist Tamara Marnell, as well as the L.A.-based Ukrainian National Choir, The Top Brass quintet and other performers.
