Elks charity family barbecue on order

CARDIFF -- Encinitas Elks Lodge 2243 and the North County Parkinson's Support Group will host the annual Elks Charity Barbecue on July 10-12 at the lodge property, 1339 Windsor Road. Event hours are 5-11 p.m. July 10; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 11; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 12. The weekend includes entertainment, food, and children's activities. Senior Center offers home meal delivery

VISTA -- The McClellan Senior Center offers a home-delivered meal service to Vista residents who are over 60 years of age with an illness or disability and/or are homebound. A nutritious, hot meal or your choice of salad is delivered Monday through Friday, with frozen meals also offered for the weekend. Suggested donation of $4. Fallbrook to hold July 4 celebration

FALLBROOK -- The Fallbrook Beautification Alliance will host its annual Fourth of July celebration, starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at The Grand Tradition, 1602 S. Mission Road. The event will feature food, drinks, entertainment, bands, a silent auction, children's events, the annual rubber duck "Quack Up Cup" race, and a fireworks display. Tickets cost $25 for adult and $10 for children 6-12. Children age 5 and under are free.The last day to buy tickets is July 2. Buy them at fallbrookbeautification.org, Major Market at 845 S. Workshop on MediCare and MediCal offered

ESCONDIDO -- The Elizabeth Hospice Center for Compassionate Care will offer a workshop on MediCare and MediCal from 1 to 2:30 p.m. July 8 at the Center, 930 Canterbury Place. Water consumption rebates offered

POWAY -- The city of Poway is offering numerous rebates for residential customers who want to save money and reduce their water consumption. Homeowners can receive rebates of $135 for high-efficiency clothes washers and $100 off on high-efficiency toilets. Those interested in improving their landscaping can obtain rebates on rotating sprinkler nozzles of $4 per nozzle, rebates of $630 per acre for weather-based irrigation controllers and rebates of up to $1 per square foot for artificial turf. Student bands offered

ESCONDIDO -- Ubiquitous Music Inc., a nonprofit organization, has a home-schoolers' band program from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Fifteen elementary and middle school students are enrolled playing flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and snare drums.The curriculum is Accents on Achievement, which is the same program used in public schools. Cost is $5 per hour.

Volunteers needed for Sheriff's Department

POWAY -- The Poway Sheriff's station is looking for men and women 50 years of age and older to volunteer for these positions: patrolling neighborhoods, parks, schools and shopping centers; working the front desk and fingerprinting at the Sheriff's station; performing traffic control; checking homes for residents on vacations; visiting the homebound in the Yana Program; enforcing handicap parking violations; assisting at major emergencies such as the Cedar Fire and Witch Creek Fire; and deploying the radar trailer daily for traffic safety.

Volunteers are the eyes and ears for the Sheriff's Department. They undergo a background screening, two weeks of academy training, work one shift per week, and attend one monthly meeting. Call 858-232-8000 for interviews. Call 858-748-2629 or leave messages at 858-513-2852.
