Chamber prepares for golf tournament
FALLBROOK —— The 25th Fallbrook Avocado Open Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 1 at the Camp Pendleton Marine Memorial Golf Course. Rick Windbigler, tournanent chairman, urges all interested parties to sign up as soon as possible
Entry forms are available from the Chamber of Commerce. Cost of golf is $125 per player, $500 for a foursome. The deadline to enter is July 15. Shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m.
Windbigler said, "Local golfers will have a unique opportunity to play the Camp Pendleton course, an opportunity that may not happen again soon. The Marine Memorial Golf Course is a great course; well-groomed and well cared for. And just as important, golfers will be helping a really worthy local cause."
He said the course "has open fairways, mature trees, and only 144 golfers will be able to enjoy this event."
All proceeds from the tournament fund the educational programs sponsored by the chamber.
Windbigler also encourages participants to consider adding a military service person to their foursome. This year, tournament organizers will make arrangements with the U.S. Marine Corps for their personnel to participate, if they are sponsored by a group.
Windbigler is splitting up his regular foursome, so that each pair will sponsor two military personnel, thus creating two teams.
Companies or individuals can also become sponsors: The Eagle sponsor at $600 pays for two golfers; Birdie sponsor at $350 pays for one golfer. Both include a tee sign, having your name in all ads, before and after the tournament, and 10 raffle tickets. A Par sponsor at $100 merits a sign on a tee or green.
Participants also are treated to two meals: A hot dog lunch and a steak dinner. Awards and plaques will be presented at the dinner.
So far, major sponsors include: Paradise Chevrolet, which is sponsoring the hole-in-one prize, a brand new, top-of-the-line Cadillac; Fallbrook Equipment Rental, Community National Bank, Temecula Valley Bank, Valley View Casino and Neiman's Collision Center. Pardee Homes has volunteered to sponsor all the Awards.
Windbigler is assisted in the organizational planning by committee members John Henker, Stan Neiman, Phil Delaney, Bill Metcalf, Jeff Minch, Gail Windbigler, Sheri Windbigler and Sandy Fontaine.
