Talent show auditions Monday

VISTA —— Premiere Productions will hold auditions for its annual talent show for youngsters ages 6 to 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Broadway Theater, 340-B E. Broadway. The talent show will be held Jan. 8. Auditioners should prepare one-minute music, vocal or other selection suitable for a family audience. 'Oliver' auditions planned

RANCHO BERNARDO —— Christian Youth Theatre's North County Inland division will hold auditions for youths ages 8 to 18 for a musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic "Oliver" from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 7 at Green Valley Church, 11501 Rancho Bernardo Road. Children's theater classes held

SOLANA BEACH —— Briona Daughterty offers beginning acting classes for third- through fifth-graders and musical theater classes for sixth- through eighth-graders. Teen acting workshop offered

CARLSBAD —— The Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA and Kristianne Kurner of Carlsbad's New Village Arts Theatre host a professional acting training program for children ages 12 to 17. Youth theater workshop ongoing

NORTH COUNTY —— The Kid Act! youth theater workshop, a 10-week class in self-expression, role-playing and acting for children ages 4 to 11, is being offered.

Classes for 1- to 6-year-olds are offered from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays; and Classes for 7- to 9-year-olds are offered from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Film/TV acting class offered

OCEANSIDE —— Al Valletta and the Star Theatre in Oceanside offer 10-week acting workshops for actors ages 10 to 17 who want to pursues careers in film and television.

Youth orchestra seeks musicians

RANCHO BERNARDO —— Auditions for the newly formed high school symphony orchestra, the San Diego Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, are being planned.

The newly formed group, based in Rancho Bernardo, is directed by Gary Horimoto and is seeking musicians for its various ensembles. The philharmonic is for grades nine through 12; the Intermediate Symphony serves middle school students; and the Cadet Winds and Strings are elementary school level ensembles. Auditions are not required for intermediate and elementary groups.

'Winnie-the-Pooh' auditions scheduled

ESCONDIDO —— Patio Playhouse will hold auditions for "Winnie-the-Pooh" at 10 a.m. Jan. 8 at the theater, 201 E. Grand Ave., Suite 1-D.

Children ages 8 through 16 are invited to audition for the show, where Kanga tries to bring order and cleanliness to the 100 Acre Wood. Most roles require solo singing performances. Auditioners should bring their own one- to two-minute accompaniment tape or CD (music without vocals). A cassette/CD play will be provided. There will be no accompanist and no a cappella singing. Reading will be from the script. Auditioners also should bring a small school photograph or other photo. Those who do not have photos can have their pictures taken at the audition.

The following roles are available: Christopher Robin, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Owl, Rabbit, Roo, a skunk, three young relatives of Rabbit and the voice of the narrator.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, March 4 through 20.

'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' auditions set

SAN MARCOS —— The city's Theatre West youth theater invites youths ages 7 to 18 to audition for its upcoming production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 10 at the San Marcos Community Center, 3 Civic Center Drive. Auditioners should come prepared to sing a one-minute sample of a song, bring a recent photo and $2 for the audition fee.

Performances dates are Feb. 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13, with show times at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Casino Night to benefit youth theater

POWAY —— The Broadway Bound Youth Theatre Foundation will host its first Casino Night from 7 to 11 p.m. Jan. 15 at the San Diego Employers Association, 12255 Parkway Center Drive.

While players try their luck at poker, roulette, blackjack or craps, opportunity drawings will run throughout the evening and complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be served. Winners at the gaming tables can turn in their play money for raffle tickets. Prizes include a DVD/VCR player, 19-inch television set, luxurious two-night stay in Palm Springs and more.

Proceeds will help fund upcoming BBYT shows, including 'Annie,' to be presented in March, and 'Grease,' scheduled for June.

BBYT is a nonprofit Poway-based youth theater program that has offered student training and productions since 1996.

Church to hold 'Oklahoma' auditions

RANCHO BERNARDO —— The Church at Rancho Bernardo's junior high and high school music program, Extreme Broadway, will present the play "Oklahoma" in its entirety this spring. Students who are interested in musical theater, singing, acting and dancing are invited to audition for the show.

Open auditions for leading roles and dancers will be held Jan. 29. Singing auditions will be from 10 a.m. to noon and dance auditions from noon to 1 p.m. Auditions are not required for the chorus.

There is a $75 production fee to participate. The fee covers costumes, make up, props and sets.

Rehearsals will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Jan. 24 at the church, 11740 Bernardo Plaza Court. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. May 19 and 20 and at 2 p.m. May 21 and 22.

CORRECTION

Director's name misspelled

The name of the director of the play 'Arsenic and Old Lace' at the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad was misspelled on Page B-2 of some editions of the Dec. 27 North County Times. The director's name is M. Eliane Weidauer. We apologize.
