Women's auxiliary seeks members

ESCONDIDO -- North County Women's Auxiliary Unit for Rady Children's Hospital will meet at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at the First United Methodist Church, 341 Kalmia St. The unit is seeking new members. Call (760) 929-9255.

Volunteer work event scheduled

ESCONDIDO -- Volunteers are needed to assist San Dieguito River Park Rangers with reconstruction of a section of multi-use trail along Lake Hodges from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 21 and 29.

Work will consist of hauling and spreading material, finishing the trail surface and installing benches. Tools, training and refreshments provided. Bring water, sun protection and wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes.

Sleep apnea group to hold workshop

OCEANSIDE -- The American Sleep Apnea Association and AWAKE, San Diego chapter, will present a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Machine Workshop from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 25 at Tri-City Medical Center, lower level, 4002 W. Vista Way.

Attendees should bring their CPAPs. Respiratory therapists will check the pressure and working condition of the devices for free. Those attending also can get answers to questions such as how long the machines last, wear-and-tear signs, how to clean one, what Medicare/insurance plans pay for, how to determine when it's time for the next sleep study, how to determine if one needs a humidifier and how to prepare for a no-electricity disaster.

Different types of CPAPs available for differing conditions will be explained. Equipment and specialists will be provided courtesy of Apria and Progressive Medical.

SD Coastkeeper plans annual gala

CORONADO -- San Diego Coastkeeper will host its 13th annual Ocean Gala Nov. 15 with the goal of raising much-needed funds to continue its work protecting San Diego's ocean wilderness. The gala will be from 7-10 p.m. at the Hotel Del Coronado. The evening will include music, dining and live and silent auctions.

AAUW branch to meet Nov. 15

OCEANSIDE -- The American Association of University Women, Carlsbad-Oceanside-Vista branch, will meet at 9 a.m. at Nov. 15 in student center building at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive.

Dr. Martin Spring, dean of counseling and special services at MiraCosta, will talk about Title IX, passed in 1973. It requires that men and women student athletes receive equal money and facilities in both high schools and colleges. Spring will share his experiences with Title IX implementation challenges as both a college coach and an administrator. He also is the father of a college girl and will include this perspective as well.

'Light Up a Life' events planned

NORTH COUNTY -- The Elizabeth Hospice will host three "Light Up a Life" memorial events Dec. 7 at two new locations.

Yacht sailings will leave Oceanside Harbor on the "Azure Seas" at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. A candlelight vigil will take place from 5-6:30 p.m at the Center for Compassionate Care, 930 Canterbury Place, Escondido. The memorial sailings will include a reading of honoree names, a musical presentation and a scattering of flowers at sea.

This annual celebration helps The Elizabeth Hospice continue to provide compassionate, dignified care to North County residents and their loved ones, regardless of their ability to pay.

Music Men Chorus to perform holiday show

NORTH COUNTY -- The Music Men Chorus will present its 22nd annual Christmas Show under the direction of John Hulbert at these times and locations:

- 2:30 p.m. Nov. 30, Carlsbad Community Church, Jefferson Street and Pine Avenue, Carlsbad. Featured guest will be Oceanside's own El Camino High School Choir, led by Dr. George Bridgewater.

- 2:30 p.m. Dec. 13, Church of the Resurrection, 1445 Conway Drive, Escondido. The show will feature the Pacific Belles, a Sweet Adeline Chorus, as well as The Gospel Truth Quartet.

Albertson's sponsors 'Feed a Family' program

SAN DIEGO -- Albertsons is sponsoring the "Feed a Family" program.

Through Dec. 19, all Albertsons stores in San Diego County are selling $1 and $5 "Turkey Buck" coupons. With the funds raised, complete turkey dinners, with all the traditional holiday fixings, will be purchased and distributed to Feeding America San Diego and other San Diego County charities to provide a Thanksgiving or holiday meal to families who otherwise may go without.

Ranch to honor artist Majorie Reed

WARNER SPRINGS -- Warner Springs Ranch will pay tribute to former Julian resident and famous painter Marjorie Reed by hosting a "Butterfield Overland Stage Line 150th Anniversary Art Exhibit and Book Signing" from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 15.

Guests can view 14 of Reed's original paintings; hear her story presented by former Ramona resident Gary Fillmore, author of "All Aboard! The Life and Work of Marjorie Reed"; and relive the adventure by viewing a National Film Institute production of "The Stagecoach Journey," showing all day.

Rose Society to hold auction Nov. 18

CARLSBAD -- The California Coastal Rose Society's annual rose auction will be held at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at Heritage Hall, 2650 Garfield St. Plants will include those that are rare, difficult to find, exotic in nature or ones that have collector's appeal.
