Moses celebrates 100th birthday

PERRIS -- Mary Moses celebrated her 100th birthday Aug. 21 with her family members at Integrated Nursing Care of Perris.

Moses is a 47 year member of the Elsinore Woman's Club and a longtime member of the Elsinore Eastern Star.

She was a teacher at the Elsinore Military Academy and performed many civic duties, including teaching literacy, making Braille books for the blind, and serving for years on the election board.

Moses has three children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Her late husband, Adam Moses, was a teacher at Elsinore High school for many years.

Center offers myriad activities

LAKE ELSINORE -- A number of courses and activities will begin this week in Lake Elsinore.

-- Fall Soccer Camp for Kids -- Children new to the sport will learn fundamentals of soccer in two sessions at Creekside Park.

Camps are held Tuesdays, Sept. 9 to 30. The times are 4 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 and 5 p.m. for ages 6 to 8. The cost is $40 and children need to bring their own ball.

Advanced registration is required. Creekside Park is at 32000 Lost Road.

-- Polynesian dance classes -- Classes for children and adults will begin Tuesday at the Lake Community Center.

Classes will meet Tuesdays for four weeks. Ages 5 to 8 meet at 4:30 p.m. and 9 to 13 at 5:30 p.m.. An intermediate classes, for ages 14 to adult with previous experience, meets at 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $45 for four classes and advanced registration is recommended.

The center is at 310 W. Graham Ave.

-- Acting Classes for Kids -- Classes for ages 4 to 12 begin Monday at Lake Community Center.

Children can learn about acting and improve their communication skills. Class times vary depending on age. The cost is $45 for a four-week session.

Advance registration is required.

-- Acoustic Guitar -- Classes for beginners will start Sept. 30 at Lake Community Center.

The class meets from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 30 to Nov. 4. The cost is $75. Students must have their own guitar.

Music teachers plan first meeting

TEMECULA -- The Music Teachers Association of California has recently chartered a Temecula Valley Branch, which will hold its first meeting at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Miyamoto Music Studios.

The organization offers a variety of programs for music teachers and their students, such as certificate of merit, Bach Festival and recitals.

Open house set for candidate

TEMECULA -- An open house to meet Grey Frandsen, a Democratic candidate in the 66th Assembly District, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cross Creek Golf Club.

Empty cradle group to meet

TEMECULA -- Empty Cradle, a support group for parents who have experienced the loss of a child to miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mary Phillips Senior Center.

Parents will discuss ways to memorialize their babies. There also will be refreshments and sharing circles.

The group meets the second Wednesday of each month at the senior center, 41845 Sixth St. For information, call 686-5677.

Corvette club meets at new place

TEMECULA -- Corvettes of Temecula Valley will hold its monthly membership meeting at a new location Thursday, Mexico Chiquito restaurant.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting is at 7.

Passport fair set for Saturday

HOMELAND -- The U.S. Postal Service will present a passport fair from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Homeland Post Office.

Agents will process passport applications and take photos. They also will accept applications for the new passport cards that can be used instead of a passport for land and sea travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

First-time applicants need proof of U.S. citizenship and a valid form of photo identification. Applicants also need two photographs, which that can be taken at the event. The fee for a passports book for first-time adult applicants is $100. The cost is $45 for a passport card. The fee for minors younger than 16 is $85 for a passport book and $35 for a passport card. Passport photos are $15.

Parents applying for passport books for children younger than 14 must both be present along with the child.

Hazardous waste collection Saturday

TEMECULA -- A household hazardous waste collection event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Temecula City Hall parking lot.

The event is offered at no charge to Riverside County residents for the disposal of hazardous household waste, such as batteries, bleach, ammonia, pesticides, motor oil, computers, televisions, propane tanks, pool chemicals, paints, solvents, thinners, fluorescent lamps, thermostats and aerosol cans.

Waste brought to the event should be properly labeled or in its original containers, which are not leaking. Residents may transport 5 gallons of liquid waste or up to 50 pounds of waste per trip, and multiple trips are allowed.

No bulky items or yard waste will be accepted.

Golf tourney upcoming

TEMECULA -- A golf tournament to benefit an Orange County family that includes two boys with autism will be held Sept. 27 at Temecula Creek Inn.

The Pay it Forward invitational benefits the Snow family and their group, Fight Against Autism.

The cost is $165, which includes golf and a banquet. It's $140 for golf only and $55 for banquet only.

Annual coastal cleanup next month

The 24th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 20. It's part of a worldwide cleanup effort that brings more than 70 nations together to improve the Earth's oceans and waterways.

Volunteers will be working at more than 700 coastal and inland shorelines throughout California.

Young Marines plan brunch

WILDOMAR -- The Wildomar Young Marines will have a breakfast buffet brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

The meal will include pancakes, eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. The cost is $7 and proceeds will go toward sending the Young Marines to Hawaii in November.

So Cal Fair exhibitors sought

PERRIS -- Entries are being accepted to the annual Southern California Fair.

Competition categories include baking, wood working, scrapbooking, table setting, painting, photography and Web design.

Hundreds of awards, including ribbons and cash prizes, will be given out.

The Southern California Fair runs Oct. 4 to 12 at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds. The theme is "Fill Your Fun Tank For Less."
