TEMECULA -- Google and blogging will be the topics when the Temecula Valley Computer Users Group meets Saturday.

At 8 a.m., club member Mike Loring will share basic information about getting around on a computer, touching on Internet, E-mail, file management and other computer uses.

Around 9:30, member Cheryl Wester will talk about tricks to make searching for information easier and teach attendees how to set up a blog.

Girls to share camp experiences

TEMECULA -- Five local students who attended the one-week Tech-Trek Science-Math camp at San Diego State University will tell about their experience when the American Association of University Women of Temecula Valley meets at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Temecula Public Library.

The recipients of scholarships to the camp from the organization were Alexandra Feliciano and Arica Natssar from Lake Elsinore, Corynne McDonald from Murrieta and Scarlett Wright and Alexa Newland from Temecula. The summer camp is designed to foster and develop a continued interest in science, math and technology.

Marine group plans

Sept. 11 service

MURRIETA -- To mark the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, members of the Murrieta/Temecula Marine Corp League will hold a ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday and the flag pole at the Colony.

The American's Creed will be part of the ceremony. The colony is at 40603 Colony Drive. For information, call 600-0542.

Newspaper research topic for genealogy society

TEMECULA -- How newspapers can in research will be a topic when the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society meets the Monday at the Temecula Library Community Room.

A beginning genealogy class will be offered at 5:30 p.m. Dotye Summers will discus what type of information to look for other than obituaries and marriage notices, ways to find what newspapers are available for particular areas of interest and how to acquire copies.

During the general meeting, Bob and Rosemary Lowe will bring to life the common Union soldier of the Civil War. Bob Lowe will describe what it was like to serve the Union during that period, show the uniforms, weapons and equipment and soldier would likely carry and use.

Newcomers Club plans events

TEMECULA -- The Temecula Valley Newcomers Club offers a free coffee social at 10:30 a.m. the first Monday of each month for new and prospective members. The next social will be Monday.

The club's monthly luncheon will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 18 at Temeku Hills Country Club.

All new and prospective members are invited. Check-in begins at 10 a.m. and the cost for lunch is $16. Catherine Thom from the Temecula Olive Company will speak. Reservations are due by Monday by calling Ellie Hamman at 461-1714.

Garden club plans first meeting

TEMECULA -- The Temecula Valley Garden Club will open its 2006 season Tuesday with its annual membership tea, welcoming old and new members.

The speaker will be Julian Duval, president/CEO of the Quail Botanical Gardens, a 35-acre nonprofit botanical reserve and wildlife sanctuary in Encinitas. One of its missions is to participate in the conservation of rare, threatened and endangered plant species.

Meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the Assistance League, 28720 Via Montezuma.

The public is invited to attend any of the meetings, however reservations must be made for this one by calling Ann Spogli at 303-1627.

Garden club opens season

MURRIETA -- The Murrieta Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the season at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Community Center.

The speaker will be from Lowe's. A potluck lunch of sandwiches, cold salads and desserts will follow the meeting.

Women's group to meet

CANYON LAKE -- The Canyon Lake Woman's Connection will be "Cruising Into Fall" when it has a luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Canyon Lake Lodge.

Kris Peterson, a personal trainer, will explain her idea of "Having a Bad Hair Day." The featured singer will be Laura Ham and there will be a fashion show from Dee's Fashion

Genealogical society to hear about Internet research

WILDOMAR -- Anne J. Miller will speak about Internet research in genealogy when the Lake Elsinore Genealogical Society meets from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 13.

Miller will focus on finding ancestors on less common sites

Corvette Club to meet

TEMECULA -- Corvettes of Temecula Valley will have its next meeting Sept. 14. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7, at Marie Callender's, 29363 Rancho California Road.

The club, which meets the second Thursday of the month, is open to Corvette owners, and prospective members are welcome.

The club will have its 3rd Annual Day of Wine & Roses Corvette Rally Sept. 16 at Lake Skinner.

Elks Club plans fund raiser

WILDOMAR -- The Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge will host a fundraiser for its Major Project Sept. 16.

Major Project is an Elks' agency that has aided children with disabilities since 1950.

There will be a dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a musical show featuring the Ophelia Theater group at 7:30.

Lions Club offers hearing aids to needy

MURRIETA -- The Murrieta Lions Club participates in a program that makes hearing aids available to qualified low-income persons.

After a doctor determines that a person is deaf because of physical conditions and a hearing specialist has performed an evaluative test, interested persons may contact the club to determine if they qualify for the program.

Knitting Ministry

WILDOMAR -- Cornerstone Community Church is seeking volunteers for its Knitting Ministry. The group meets weekly and creates hats, scarves and gloves for the homeless of Lake Elsinore and surrounding areas.

In addition, last year's participants crocheted and donated more than 100 afghans for children admitted to area trauma units.
