City offers ballet class for adults
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The city of Lake Elsinore is offering an adult ballet fitness class from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays at Lake Community Center.
The sessions are divided into three components with basic ballet for adults, Pilates and Latin choreography. No prior dance experience is needed.
The class, designed for people 16 and older, costs $42 for four sessions.

Scouts to host rummage sale
MURRIETA ---- Temecula Boy Scout Troop 384 will host a large multi-family rummage sale on Saturday.
Items to be featured in the sale include furniture, exercise equipment, electronics, children's items and clothing. Proceeds will be used to help fund the Scouts' activities and awards.
The sale will run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at Buchanan Elementary School, 40121 Torrey Pines in Murrieta.

Barn dance set for Saturday
TEMECULA ---- A country western barn dance will be held Saturday at the barn at Maurice Car'rie Winery east of Temecula.
Deejay and host John Irwin will play couples and line dance music. Champagne, wine, beer and soda will be available for purchase.
The event will run from 7 to 10 p.m. and the cost is $7.

Broncos to relive CIF victory Saturday
MURRIETA ---- Students, parents and community members will be able to relive the Vista Murrieta Bronco's victory in the CIF semi-finals Saturday when the campus stages its first "Game of the Year" Replay event.
Organizers say the Dec. 4 game against the Norco Cougars will be shown on screens in the gymnasium at Vista Murrieta. Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, or to sit on the bleachers.
Several clubs will be selling food and beverages and there will be free raffles of Bronco gear between quarters.
The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at the school, 28251 Clinton Keith Road.

Pop rock concert planned for park
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The four-week Music with the View concert series continues Saturday with a performance by Kanan Road, a local country western band.
The free concerts, organized by Elsinore Valley Arts Network and the city of Lake Elsinore, start at 7:30 on Saturday nights at McVicker Canyon Park, 29355 Grand Ave.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket and have a picnic, but no alcohol or dogs are allowed in the park.

Family Fest to benefit cheer program
LAKE ELSINORE ---- The Lancer Cheerleaders will host a Back2School Family Fest to benefit the cheerleading program from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Admission wristbands, which cost $5, will grant participants unlimited access to hair and face painting, craft tables, cotton candy, a bounce house, junior Olympic activities, school supply raffles and a Tacos Del Mar burrito-eating contest. There will also be an opportunity to dunk the Lakeside High School principal, with two throws costing $1.

Rocket launch set for Sunday
TEMECULA ---- The Temecula Rocket Group invites spectators and rocket enthusiasts to a model rocket launch Sunday.
The launch is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon and there is no charge to participate. People with model rockets can use the group's launch equipment and spectators are welcome.
On Sunday, the liftoff will be at Temecula Middle School, 42075 Meadows Parkway in Temecula.

Street dance battle benefits nonprofit
MURRIETA ---- A street dance battle set for Sunday at New Covenant Fellowship will raise money for a local mentoring program for youths.
Groups composed of five to 10 members ages 9 to 21 will compete against each other for first-, second- and third-place honors. The winners will receive monetary prizes.
People who want to view the contest will be admitted for a $15 donation. Proceeds from the event will be used to support and expand Mentoring Today for Tomorrow's programs to recruit, train and retain qualified mentors for at-risk youths.
The contest will be staged from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church, 38801 Calistoga Road in Murrieta.

Anime classes start next week
TEMECULA ---- Local artist Tony Moramarco will offer a series of anime classes for children that kick off next week.
The "Exploring Anime/Anime Revolution" class will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sept. 21 at the Temecula Public Library, 30600 Pauba Road.
This class is for children ages 11 to 17 and is for artists interested in anime and manga, which are types of Japanese cartoons. It will focus on shonen, shojo and mecha drawing styles, which are popular with teens.

City plans Sept. 11 remembrance event
TEMECULA ---- The city will host a Sept. 11 Remembrance memorial event featuring live music by the Spirit of Great Oak Jazz Ensemble Combo and Marching Band.
Community members are invited to remember that day by lighting a candle to be placed in the duck pond, writing a message in the keepsake journal and listening to the live music.
The event will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Duck Pond Park in Temecula, at the corner of Rancho California and Ynez roads.

Oncologist to talk about breast cancer
TEMECULA ---- Dr. Bruce Hayton will discuss the oncologist's approach to breast cancer, including developments in oncology treatments, at a seminar presented by Michelle's Place.
Medical experts say the survival rate for breast cancer has improved over the years, due in part to earlier detection, and also because of better treatments.
Hayton will talk about those treatments and answer questions.
He graduated from medical school and completed his internal medicine residency at Loma Linda University School of Medicine.
After completing his U.S. Army internist in 1992, he completed his medical oncology fellowship at UCSD in 1994. Since then, he has had his own practice.

Senior association to meet Tuesday
WILDOMAR ---- The Wildomar Senior Association will meet for a potluck on Tuesday.
Kristan Loyd will talk to members about a new program to help senior citizens repair their homes at low cost.
The group meets at 11:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Canyon Mobile Homes clubhouse, 21601 Canyon Drive. Visitors are welcome.

Grandparents group forming
MURRIETA ---- A new group, Grandparents without Partners, is looking for grandparents 60 years or older who are widowed, divorced or single to join.
The group will gather twice for dinner this month at a Murrieta restaurant. The meetings will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
The group is geared for people looking for dining, good conversation, dancing, listening to music and other fun activities.
Some grandparents will bring their grandchildren along.

Seniors group schedules trips
TEMECULA ---- Seniors' Golden Years of Temecula Valley is planning several excursions over the next couple of months.
On Sept. 9, a trip is planned to Viejas Casino and mall in Alpine. The cost is $10, but participants get $5 back.
On Sept. 28, the group will take a mystery tour and visit a farmers market. The cost is $76.

Senior driving classes offered
AARP offers an ongoing driver safety program for mature drivers. The eight-hour course is offered for drivers 50 and older at various locations throughout Southwest County.
The course, which costs $12 for AARP members or $14 for nonmembers, can help participants save money on auto insurance.
