Concert set at park

POWAY ---- The San Diego Folk Heritage Musical Odessy presents the Heloise Love and David Morgan concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 in Templar's Hall in Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. Love was a founding member of Highland Way, one of San Diego's Celtic groups. Scottish and Irish music will be performed, as well as modern and traditional folk, country and a few surprises. Morgan has been playing on his own with many different groups. His original music draws on many traditions. Admission is $15 for SDFH members and $18 for nonmembers. Barn dance to be held

POWAY ---- The city of Poway and the Old Poway Park Action Committee will hold a barn dance at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in Templars Hall at Old Poway Park, 14134 Midland Road. Computer classes for seniors

CARLSBAD ---- The Carlsbad Senior Center will offer "Computer Literacy" computer classes for adults ages 50 and older, taught by Microsoft-certified instructor Harriet Marois, from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays Sept. 8-29 at 799 Pine Ave. Learn about basic computer concepts, the Internet, Google, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, games and more. Gardening class on tap

CARLSBAD ---- The Agua Hedionda Lagoon will hold a native gardening class by Greg Rubin of California's Own Native Landscape Design from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at the lagoon discovery center, 1580 Cannon Road. Native gardens are low-water and low-maintenance and benefit birds, butterflies and other native wildlife both large and small. Cost is $35 for members, $50 for prospective members. Grief share workshop offered

ESCONDIDO ---- Emmanuel Faith Community Church is offering a grief share weekly seminar/support group for people grieving the death of a loved one from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 7 through Nov. 16 in the downstairs chapel, 639 E. OASIS offers classes

ESCONDIDO ---- OASIS is offering classes for adults 50 and older that begin Sept. 7 at the following locations: Escondido City Hall, Training Room 2 (ECH), 201 N. Broadway; Redwood Terrace (RT), 710 W. 13th Ave.; OASIS auditorium (OA), 210 Park Ave. A one-time trimester processing fee of $10 is charged in addition to the class fee. The classes are:

-- Windows from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 7 through Oct. 12 at ECH. The class fee is $50.

-- Computer Housekeeping: 10 a.m. to noon Sept 7 at ECH. The class fee is $15.

-- Which One's for Me? Computer Class Review from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at ECH. Meet the instructor and learn what classes are for your skill level.

-- Knitting Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 29 at RT. The class fee is $16. Learn basic knitting and how to read a pattern; projects will be completed.

-- What is Astrology? from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at OA. The class fee is $6. Learn basis astrology; readings will be done as time permits.

Exhibit, meeting to be held

ESCONDIDO ---- The Artists Gallery presents "Celebrating Escondido," a juried exhibit of paintings, drawings and photographs by members and friends of the Escondido Art Association from Sept. 9 through Oct. 2 at 121 W. Grand Ave. The judge is Alicia Sotherland, a portrait and figurative artist. An artists' reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 11; ribbon awards will be presented at 6 p.m. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The art association also will hold the first of its 10 monthly members' meetings from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at Joslyn Senior Center, 210 E. Park Ave. Members are encouraged to bring one artwork to the meeting, to be judged in competition by guest demonstrator Karen Langer Baker. Baker is president of the Fallbrook Art Association, past director of Fallbrook's Brandon Gallery and past publicity director of the Fallbrook Art Association. Baker's demonstration will focus on composition, including important elements of design, such as balance with shapes, contrasts with opposites and figure/background relationships. Archaeology center holds open house

ESCONDIDO ---- The San Diego Archaeological Center will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 11 at 16666 San Pasqual Valley Road. Experience project archaeology through newly created lessons in shellfish analysis, botany and rock art. A school year calendar will be available for educators to schedule classroom, scout, home-school and life-learner programs for the 2010-11 academic year.
