Oceanside resident makes dean's list
Jennifer Roman of Oceanside earned a spot on the fall 2006 semester dean's list at Biola University in La Mirada. She received the honor by earning a grade point average of 3.60 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credit units. She is the daughter of David and Rosario Roman of Oceanside and is the granddaughter of Dolores Medina.
Multicultural Health and Safety Fair set
OCEANSIDE - Mission Meadows Elementary School, 5657 Spur Road, will present a Multicultural Health and Safety Fair from 12:30 to 3 p.m. June 2. European student trip planned
CARLSBAD - T.R. and C.R. Robertson, anthropology and sociology instructors at Carlsbad High School, are signing students up for a trip to the most beautiful cities in Europe during the summer of 2008. The trip will include stops in Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and Heidelberg. Optional stops in Potsdam and a Danube river trip also will be offered. EHS senior earns Moose scholarship
ESCONDIDO - Ashley Genaway, a senior at Escondido High School, recently received a $1,000 Moose International R. Robert Dale Scholarship. Winners must meet eligibility criteria by being a child of, or under legal guardianship of, a Moose organization member in good standing and carry at least a 2.5 grade point average. Since 1986, the Moose fraternity has awarded more than $1.1 million to qualifying students associated with Moose lodges across the country.
Teen depression seminar planned
RANCHO PENASQUITOS - Two evening seminars addressing "Teen Depression" will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 14 and June 4 in Room Z-5 of the campus, 9550 Carmel Mountain Road. Seminar leader Lee Sigall, a licensed marriage and family therapist, will talk about improving the quality of relationships, increasing school success and keeping teens drug and alcohol free. Escondido residents earn degrees
Two Escondido residents recently earned college degrees. They are: Shane Pfaff, who received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Portland in Portland, Ore.; and Donald Roth, who received a bachelor's degree in art from Dordt College. The son of David and Sandra Roth, he also minored in interdisciplinary linguistics.
RBHS alumna to graduate with honors
Marielle Kathleen Decker, daughter of Lewis Decker and Kathleen Freres and 2003 graduate of Rancho Bernardo High School, will graduate on June 17 with cum laude honors in environmental science from UC Riverside. She recently was selected by university faculty members for induction into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society.
Knob Hill receives grant
SAN MARCOS - Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation recently awarded a $3,200 Toolbox for Education grant to Knob Hill Elementary School to fund landscaping improvements on campus. The project is intended to improve the visual image of the school entrance so students, staff members and parents can have an enhanced sense of pride in the grounds and the buildings. On May 12, community volunteers worked at the school to remove overgrown and dead plants and trees. Lowe's offered to deliver new plants and trees and to have their employees help plant them. Launched in partnership with PTO Today, a leading organization serving parent-teacher groups, Toolbox for Education grants of up to $5,000 each were available for the 2006-07 school year. Parent groups can apply for future grants by logging onto http://www.ToolboxforEducation.com. All kindergarten through 12th-grade schools in the United States are eligible.

FUESD 2007-08 student registration begins
FALLBROOK - The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District has begun taking registrations for the 2007-08 school year, with registrations taking place at one's school of residence.
To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2. Parents must bring a valid birth or baptismal certificate.
Bring current immunization records signed by a doctor showing: Polio, four doses or three doses if the third was given after the fourth birthday; MMR, two doses with both doses on or after the first birthday; and Hepatitis B, a three-dose series.
Any child entering a California school at kindergarten level, or first grade if kindergarten was skipped, and any older child younger than 18 from out of state or out of the country who enters a California school for the first time will be required to have one dose of Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, two doses for children 13 and older.
Kindergarten children who have had chickenpox are required to provide verification of the disease from their medical provider. This verification should be written on the child's shot record by the doctor. A child will not be admitted to school unless all necessary immunizations are completed.
A waiver is available for children whose medical conditions or personal beliefs forbid immunization. The state also requires entering kindergarten or first grade students to have a dental check up. Proof of residency in Fallbrook will be required at registration. Bring one of the following documents that shows a current address: driver's license or identification, deed, escrow papers, rent receipt, utility bill or moving receipt.
Registration packets are available at all school sites with the necessary information and forms required. Old ink cartridges sought
FALLBROOK -Kopa Literary Magazine is a club that meets weekly at Fallbrook High School. Each year, the club produces a publication comprised of student art, poetry and short stories. To help supplement the cost of publication the Kopa team is recycling old ink cartridges with a company by the name of Empties4cash. Individuals or businesses with empty or unwanted ink cartridges can contact the editors with the information below and they will pick them up.
