POWAY - Looks Like Me, a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces free of charge to financially disadvantaged children younger than 18 with cancer and other medical hair losses, will hold its eighth annual golf tournament and benefit dinner Sept. 7 at the Maderas Golf Club, 17750 Old Coach Road.
The tournament will be an 18-hole, four-player scramble format with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $225 per golfer, which includes a round of golf, green fees, golf cart, lunch, refreshments and a gourmet dinner. Non-playing guests can attend the benefit dinner at 6:30 p.m. for $65. Opportunities will be available to win a trip to Costa Rica, $100,000 hole-in-one and many other prizes. Looks Like Me is also accepting prize donations for the live and silent auctions or donations to become a hole sponsor.

Fiber arts exhibit to open Sept. 5
VISTA - "Weaving: The Fabric of Life," an exhibit of works in fiber arts created by members of the Palomar Handweavers Guild, will be on display from Sept. 5 through Oct. 27 at the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe Gallery, 651 E. Vista Way. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
The community is invited to a reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at the gallery. Guild members will be on hand to answer questions about their works.
Fiber arts encompass weaving with yarns, basketry, weaving with wire, knitting, spinning a wide range of fibers and beading. The Palomar Handweavers Guild is an active North County group whose members create a wide variety of styles and diverse works in the fiber arts.

Jewish literature discussion series offered
POWAY - The San Diego County Library and the City of San Diego Library systems will offer three free five-part series titled "Let's Talk About It: Jewish Literature - Identity and Imagination."
The Poway series, "Your Heart's Desire: Sex and Love in Jewish Literature," will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Community Room adjacent to the Poway branch of the San Diego County Library, 13137 Poway Road. Event to benefit Women's Resource Center
CARLSBAD - The Women's Resource Center's 27th annual Magical Evening will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 7 at the home of Bebe and Rusty Grosse in Carlsbad.
This year's event, titled "Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay," will feature samplings of a wide variety of foods, wines and micro-brews, a silent auction and music from 1950s.

ENCINITAS - The San Diego Brain Injury Foundation will sponsor a meeting for brain injury survivors, their families and professionals from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 in the conference center at Scripps Hospital Encinitas, 354 Santa Fe Drive.
A panel of brain injury survivors will address the topic "If I Only Knew Then What I Know Now." The panel will include survivors who have gone back to school, re-entered the work force and become active in volunteer work and are expressing themselves in creative ways.

29th annual Greek Festival set
CARDIFF - The 29th annual Greek Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 8 and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 9 on the grounds of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 3459 Manchester Ave. Admission is $2 for adults; free admission for kids younger than 12. Free parking will be available the MiraCosta College parking area adjacent to the church.
The festival will include a bazaar featuring Greek imports, music, pottery, fine jewelry and Greek artwork; game booths for children; an open marketplace offering fresh produce and Greek deli specialty food items; live international music; dance performances; Greek food; and a live auction at 5 p.m. both days.
A 2007 Mercedes Benz C230 Sedan will be raffled off at 7 p.m. Sept. 9, with all proceeds going to the church building fund and charities throughout the community. The winner does not need to be present. In addition, visitors can view the church's interior mosaics and marble during tours offered at 1 and 4 p.m. each day.
