San Dieguito Academy to present Moliere comedy

ENCINITAS -- "The Bourgeois Gentleman," a comedy by Moliere, will be performed Feb. 1 through 4 in the Roudabout Theatre at San Dieguito Academy, 800 Santa Fe Drive.

Students will perform in and run technical aspects of the show. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for seating, and the curtain will rise at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for students.

VHS Winter Arts Show and Auction set for Feb. 4

VISTA -- Vista High School's 2006 Winter Art Show and Auction is planned from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 4 in the gym of the school, 1 Panther Way.

The 15th annual event is a collaboration between the Panther Art Foundation and the school's art department, and will feature exemplary student artwork including paintings, drawings, ceramics, photography and sculpture. Items will be on display and for sale, and an auction of donated items ranging from student artwork to restaurant certificates to vacation trips will be held.

The Panther Art Foundation is a nonprofit group. Proceeds from the show will fund student scholarships and art department needs, and donations will be tax-deductible. Funds are also used for maintenance of the George Sexsmith Memorial Art Gallery on campus.

Admission to the show is free.

This year's event will also feature an Italian buffet with live music hosted by a disc jockey and room to dance.

New version of 'Grease' planned

CARLSBAD -- A new family-friendly version of "Grease," the popular 50s rock 'n' roll musical, will take the stage Feb. 2 through 4 at the Carlsbad Community Cultural Arts Center at Carlsbad High School, 3557 Lancer Way.

Performed by a youth group from the Carlsbad Community Theatre, the "school version" includes most of the rollicking music of the original production of "Grease" that centers on the fictional Rydell High School.

The musical director is Olivia Schulenburg and the choreographer is Mandy Langen.

Tickets cost $12 general admission and $10 for students, seniors and members of the military. Tickets for groups of four or more to a single performance are $10. Tickets are available by calling (760) 931-8709, or from the CAC box office.

Workshop to feature 'Annie' songs

ENCINITAS -- Children ages 5 to 9 can learn words the songs in the musical "Annie" and move to music in a musical theater exercise class held from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Thursdays at Frog's Fitness, 780 Garden View Court.

Concert to fund Country Day scholarships

LA JOLLA -- "Stars In Our Eyes," a program featuring a unique mix of talented local high school performers, is planned for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at UC San Diego's Mandeville Auditorium.

The Rotary Club of La Jolla is sponsoring the annual event. Proceeds will go to the Rotary Club's scholarship program. La Jolla Country Day School, La Jolla High School, the Preuss School and The Bishop's School, benefit from the scholarship program.

Performers will include the Upper School Dance Team in "Changing Channels," a number choreographed by Patricia Rincon, Brian Schafer, Sarah Kenney and Upper School dance teacher Rob Lewis; senior and master of ceremonies Mitch Kroener, who will perform a duet titled "All The Wasted Time" with Bishop's student Meagan Rossin; freshman Olivia Lenz, who will tap dance to "Happy Feet"; and sophomore Marius Migdalski, who will play "Sonata in F Minor, Opus 2, No.1" on piano.

AUDITIONS:

'Julius Caesar'

CARLSBAD -- The Army and Navy Academy will hold open auditions for "Julius Caesar" from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 1, 2 and 3 on campus, 2605 Carlsbad Blvd. The play will be set in 2006 and will include roles for a woman senator, police and soldiers. Auditions will be held Feb. 1 in the Academy Chapel on Ocean Avenue and Feb. 2 and 3 in Davis Hall on the main campus. Auditions will involve cold readings from the scripts. 'Figments'

OCEANSIDE -- Fourth Wall Youth Productions will hold auditions for "Figments," a farcical comedy by Billy St. John, Feb. 4 at the Sunshine Brooks Theater, 217 N. Coast Highway.

Playhouse holds auditions for kids

SAN DIEGO -- Auditions for La Jolla Playhouse's 2006 Summer Conservatory, an intensive acting experience for students grades 10 to 12, will be held March 18, 19, 24 and 26. Applications are due March 1 and require two letters of recommendation and answers to a series of essay questions.
