Garage sale to benefit shelter

TEMECULA -- A garage sale will be held Friday and Saturday with proceeds benefiting the Animal Friends of the Valleys.

The sale will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at 30482 Colina Verde in Temecula. It will feature appliances, jewelry, books, toys and furniture.

Organizers say the money raised will be donated to the local animal shelter. For information, call (951) 693-3142.

Puppy and kitten foster parents needed

TEMECULA -- Animal Friends of the Valleys is looking for foster parents for puppies and kittens.

Temporary homes are needed until permanent homes can be arranged.

Party to benefit medical group

MENIFEE -- A day- and night-long party will be held Saturday to benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

The event, which will run from noon to midnight, will feature a disc jockey, live music, a dance floor and raffles and a demonstration by the Metzger Freestyle Unlimited team from noon to 2 p.m.

There also will be vendors and kids activities such as pony rides, bounce houses and a petting corral.

The event will be held at Wooden Nickel Ranch, 25690 Holland Road in Menifee. Admission is $10 for adults; children 12 and younger will be admitted free.

'Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt' set

WILDOMAR -- An "Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt" is set for Saturday at Welch Park on Gruwell Street.

The hunt will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 10:30 a.m. with all proceeds benefiting Wildomar Boy Scout Troop 332.

Face painting, children's crafts and other activities will be available.

Cheerleaders host Easter bunny

LAKE ELSINORE -- Titan cheerleaders from Temescal Canyon High School are holding a Spring Fling event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The activities will include an opportunity for children to have their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny, a petting zoo, a bounce house, an Easter egg hunt, and arts and crafts.

The event will be at the Lake Elsinore Market Place off Highway 74 near Interstate 15.

Scooter camp offered for kids

LAKE ELSINORE -- Champion riders from Team Scooter Tees will be offering a scooter camp on Saturday at Glory Indoor Skate Park.

The camp, which runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., will include instruction on the basics of riding, tricks, repairs, adjustments and modifications. It also includes use of the private park for a day -- scooters only -- lunch and freebies from sponsors.

The cost is $35, or $40 at the door. The camp is limited to 30 participants.

Earth Day activities to kick off

LAKE ELSINORE -- A monthlong celebration of Earth Day will kick off Saturday at City Park.

The day will start with a 9 a.m. egg hunt for children ages 2 through 8. A kids eco fair, featuring a composting workshop, recycled crafts, calendar art contest and giveaways, will follow the hunt.

Outlets schedules Easter activities

LAKE ELSINORE -- A magical Easter event with live bunnies is scheduled for Saturday at the Lake Elsinore Outlets.

A magic show and dance performances are part of the agenda, with performances taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Photos with the Easter Bunny will be available for $5. Free Easter eggs, bags and cupcakes also will be handed out.

The Outlets is at 17600 Collier Ave.

'Beethoven Spectacular' offered

TEMECULA -- The Golden Valley Musical Society is presenting a "Beethoven Spectacular" on Saturday at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater.

Featuring the California Chamber Orchestra, the presentation includes Octet in Eb written in 1792.

Also on the bill is Quintet for Piano and Winds.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, $12.50 for students older than 12 and $2.50 for younger children.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance are available at the theater box office or through the Web site www.goldenvalleymusicsociety.org.

Dixieland jazz featured Sunday

LAKE ELSINORE -- The Lakeside Dixieland Jazz Club is providing its monthly performance of Dixieland jazz and swing on Sunday at the Women's Club in Lake Elsinore.

The public is invited to the event, which starts at 1:30 p.m. Musicians also are invited to take part in the music at the club at 710 W. Graham Ave.

The featured band taking the stage at 3 p.m. is Nanette and Her Hotsy Totsy Boys.

Admission is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers.

Ballroom dance class scheduled

LAKE ELSINORE -- A ballroom dance class is being offered on Tuesdays this month at the Lake Elsinore Community Center.

The class will include instruction on the waltz, fox trot, rumba, cha cha, disco, salsa and tango. Singles and couples are welcome and no prior dance experience is needed. The cost is $20 for four classes.

Storm holds pet supply drive

LAKE ELSINORE -- The Lake Elsinore Storm and Animal Friends of the Valleys are teaming up to collect pet supplies.

Anyone who donates one bag of any type of kitty litter or Kong rubber chew toys will receive two free tickets to Opening Night on Thursday.

Donations can be taken to the ticket office at the stadium, 500 Diamond Drive in Lake Elsinore, through Wednesday.

Cross Walk set for April 10

TEMECULA -- A walk to commemorate Jesus' walk to the cross will be held in Temecula on April 10.

The 23rd annual event will have participants traveling from the Temeku Theater parking lot in the Mervyn's center to Sam Hicks Park in Old Town Temecula.

Walkers will gather at 11 a.m. and begin their trek at 11:15 a.m. A celebration at the park will follow from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.

Ballroom dance set for April 11

TEMECULA -- A ballroom dance is scheduled for 7:30 to 10 p.m. on April 11 at the Community Recreation Center.

MSJC offers fiction writing discussion

MENIFEE --- Award-winning poet and fiction writer Brandon Cesmat will present a reading and discussion of fiction writing at Mt. San Jacinto College on April 14.

The session begins at 12:30 p.m. in Room 927 of the Technology Building.

Cesmat teaches literature and writing at Cal State San Marcos and his work has appeared in numerous publications.

Senior association to meet Tuesday

WILDOMAR -- The Wildomar Senior Association will meet for its monthly potluck and program on Tuesday.

The group meets at 11:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Canyon Mobile Homes clubhouse, 21601 Canyon Drive. Visitors are welcome.

Senior center plans excursions

MURRIETA -- The Murrieta Senior Center is planning two trips in the next two months.

On Wednesday, the group will travel to the Palm Springs Follies, a Vaudeville act with a cast of retirees between the ages of 50 and 80. The cost is $74.

On May 28, participants will visit the Descanso Gardens, which features a spectacular array of flowers that are in bloom year-round. The trip also includes a 40-minute guided tour through the 165-acre grounds. That same day, attendees will visit the Norton Simon Museum. The cost is $44.

Gospel choir seeks members

The Senior Gospel Community Choir is inviting all those age 50 are older who enjoy singing traditional and contemporary gospel, hymns and spirituals.

Senior driving classes offered

The AARP offers an ongoing driver safety program for mature drivers. The eight-hour course is offered for drivers 50 and older at various locations throughout Southwest County.

The course, which costs $12 for AARP members or $14 for non-members, can help participants save money on auto insurance.

Three blood drives set this week

Three blood drives are scheduled in Southwest County this week.

The drives will be held from:

- 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Keck Insurance Agency, 28936 Old Town Temecula.

- 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Catherine of Alexandra Parish, 41875 C St. in Temecula

- 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Menifee Valley Medical Center, 28400 McCall Blvd. in Sun City.

Donors must be 16 years old, healthy and weigh at least 110 pounds; the process takes about an hour.

Cesarean awareness group to meet

TEMECULA -- The Cesarean Awareness Network will meet Saturday to celebrate Cesarean Awareness Month.

The group will gather at 11 a.m. at Pat & Oscar's restaurant, 29375 Rancho California Road in Temecula.
