Osmond to speak at family summit
MORENO VALLEY -- Alan Osmond, the oldest member of the singing Osmond family, will speak at the State of the Family Summit from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Moreno Valley Conference Center.
Osmond, a multiple sclerosis survivor, and father of eight boys, will speak about the importance of families and how communities can strengthen them.
During the event, Judge Paul Zellerbach will be honored as the first recipient of the Peggy Fouke-Wortz "Champion of the Family" award. Zellerbach was selected for his dedication to the community and for his work as chairman of the association's board.
The award was established in honor of Fouke-Wortz, who died earlier this year at the age of 89. The philanthropist had a commitment to serve the forgotten and disadvantaged members of the community.
The cost is $35 per person. Proceeds will go to Family Service Association.

Piano Guild to meet
Pianists who love classical music are invited to attend a meeting of The Piano Guild at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The guild's purpose is to promote the education of piano literature. Members also will explore musical style, a little theory, interpretation and performance of major classical composers.

Social club to meet

Parton rep to address group
TEMECULA -- Pam Hunsacker of the Dolly Parton Foundation will speak when the Temecula Noon Rotary Club meets at noon Oct. 15 at Sizzler in Temecula.
The Dolly Parton Foundation provides books throughout the nation to children 1 to 5 years old.
More than 40 Rotary Clubs are participating in the program. The Temecula club has budgeted funds to have up to 500 books mailed monthly to children in Southwest County at a cost of $28 per year per child.

Proposition topic of talk
TEMECULA -- "Primer on the Props: How to Evaluate Initiatives" will be the topic of discussion when Citizens for Democracy meets at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Mary Phillips Senior Center.
Utilizing criteria established by the League of Women Voters, the 12 propositions on the Nov. 4 ballot will be evaluated and discussed.

Nonprofits sought for festival
TEMECULA --- Nonprofit community service organizations are invited to participate in the city's Halloween Family carnival from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at Ronald Reagan Sports Park.
Groups may request a 10-foot, by 10-foot game booth for no charge. The group is responsible for providing table, chairs, canopies and game supplies. The city will provide candy and prizes.

A Holiday Gift Boutique will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 14 at the Murrieta Senior Center and the Festival under the Stars Craft Fair will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 at Town Square Park.
Both events will include vendors selling homemade goods and direct sale company items.
Booth space for the Holiday Gift Boutique costs $7. Space for Festival Under the Stars is $30.

Mountain Rescue Unit holding auction
Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit is holding a raffle for a weekend golf package for two in order to raise operational funds.
The grand prize includes two nights and two rounds of golf at the Warner Springs Ranch. Second prize is children's golf lessons with PGA pro Mike Raschko.
Funds raised will go toward operational expenses and the training on a large group of members who have recently joined the team.
RMRU is a volunteer, nonprofit, mountain search and rescue team.
