ENCINITAS -- A 26-year-old woman was flown to a local hospital late Sunday after she fell off a cliff in a backyard south of Stone Steps Beach, authorities said.
Shortly after 11 p.m., emergency crews responded to 252 Neptune Ave. and found the woman lying on the beach with major injuries, said Encinitas Marine Safety Capt. Larry Giles.
The woman, whose name was not released, was a guest at the home. Authorities did not know where she's from. She was walking from a hot tub to a hammock near the cliff when she got too close to the edge and fell up to 100 feet, the captain said.
Alcohol was involved in the incident, he said.
The woman was flown by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla with major spine trauma and head and internal injuries, Giles said.
She remained at the hospital in critical condition Monday afternoon, he said.
